Le Petit Diablotin "The Little Devil", is part of the Calambic series and is an American Sour Ale. Le Petit Diablotin is a barrel aged sour version of our Pom Cherry Bomb. The beer was aged in wine barrels with local sour cherry and pomegranate juice. The beer was aged for three years in American Oak with a blend of various souring cultures prior to its official release in July 2014. The beer is a delicate and precious treat for those who enjoy the subtle nuances of things from "the wild side".

I love a well made sour with a little fruit. Recently, it seems like sour beers are more popular than in past years, unfortunately leading to a lot of sub-par brews. This one started right, with a beautiful tart, funky, fruity brew. The appearance is a murky light orange-brown. Medium-sour, tart, fun flavor. Dry. Lots of sour cherry flavor in the mid-taste through the finish. Nice.

L: Opaque pink with a big foamy white head. Excellent retention and lacing.
S: Super tart, funky, barnyard, mildew. Bright sour cherry sour skins and pomegranate stings the nostrils, alongside a deep depth of warm oak character with hints of red wine.
T: Tons of tart fruit character, sour cherry skin and pomegranate juice, accentuated by subtle red wine notes. Intense sourness and funk throughout, a dry musty barnyard flavor that dries the palate out. Crab apple and lemon pith as well.
Comes across as red wine vinegar. Bright and zesty. Subtle oak in the background.
F: Medium-bodied, smooth and rich, intense carbonation.
O: Absolutely delicious. Super complex and dynamic.

Super cloudy and full of sediment. Opaque and almost looks like v8. Quite effervescent! The smell is sweet yet sharp. Sour cherry is the forefront of the aroma. The sour bites quick on the tongue, is very fizzy then dissipates into a fruit wine with bubbles on the back end to tickle your throat.

this would be such a better beer if it werent so sour. the description says delicate and subtle, but i found the acidity of this one to be way over the top, completely obliterating any of the more mild aspects of this, and while its quite obviously aged in a wine barrel, the parts i want to taste, the wild yeast and the fruit, are really covered up by that sourness. a little pink in the glass, bubbly like a soda but with a lasting white airy head. aroma and taste are toxically sour, hurts my teeth, like totally over developed at the expense of the rest of the beer. i like all the wood on it, that much is obvious in the taste, and the raspberry, plum, and cranberry notes i get from the cherry and pomegranate additions and the wine, there is a nice complexity to all of that. i even gather a little mature funk here, but as its starting to open, the lactic and even malic acidity comes in and destroys all of that, almost scalding the palate. the folks who like them too sour to drink will be a fan of this, but for me it was over the top by quite a bit. i have loved these guys so far, admired all of their work, and this has a lot of potential, but my draft pour down at jakes in littleton was just way too sour for any of the more interesting features to really have a chance to shine...

A rose' color with not much of a head
Sweet and tart fruit aroma
Cherry, pomegranate taste. Somewhat vinous.
Too carbonated for me, even after letting it sit for a while.
