Tap It Brewing Co.
California, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
This first wort-hopped IPA has a harmonious explosion of hop flavor and aroma. A hazy head leads drinkers toward a beer rich in citrus and earthy flavors with a smooth and rich finish. The complex floral and citrusy tones from the Citra and Simcoe hops welcome you, while two more aromatic varietals mate perfectly with specialty malts for an unmatched aroma.

Bottle (2013)

Thanks, SubpoenaDeuces!

Mildly hazed dark orange. Large off-white head. Stripes of thick lacing left down the glass--a sticky IPA. Pretty and appropriate.

Sweet, candied oranges in the aroma. Caramel complements and just a hint of alcohol. Fairly average, I suppose, at least when compared to Southern California's usually upper echelon of hop bombs.

Sweet candied orange flesh, caramel and bready malts, moderate bitterness, and incredible drinkability.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Good, but a sweeter IPA compared to other SoCal gems.

Grabbed a sixer of these at some corner market in Paso Robles. Poured out a dark copper color, auburn, that kind of thing. Aroma, depends on which bottle I had. The first, the usual citrus aroma and a little malty heaviness. Subsequent bottles were a mixed bag, some of the bittersweet hop transformation, malt soggy woodness.

Taste, plenty bitter, a substantial beer, every bit of 2 row used to give the beer a hefty mouthfeel. Abundant caramel. Depending on which bottle, sometimes a little sweeter. Being that I got this at a corner market, and no apparent bottle dating, who knows why the bottles were a mixed bag. Overall, the hopping seems to be of the desireable kind, cascade, citra, simcoe probably.

Good beers in a style and geographical glut. Worth trying, I dunno about going back, just would depend on what else is around, some stores, this will be the best thing on the shelf.

A : Vibrant orange color. Rich head that quickly fades

S: Juicy citrus fruit and pineapple

T : Crisp, bitter, earthy, and citric, with some malt. The flavor profile got even more complex and interesting as it warmed up.

M: Full bodied. On the bubblier side.

O: I liked it at the start, but was digging it by the end. Slightly sweet, sticky finish. Very solid, highly drinkable west coast IPA.

12oz bottle, day 9 of the 2013 Craft Beer Advent Calendar, and a new Cali brewery's IPA to boot!

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium copper amber hue, with three fingers of aggressively puffy, tightly foamy, and marshmallow creamy off-white head, which leaves some nice sudsy webbed lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly sinks away.

It smells of sharp pine resin and mixed citrus pith bitterness straight out of the gate, with some mildly toasted caramel malt, dry toffee candies, and further soapy, lemony, and leafy hops following things up. The taste is more grapefruit, orange, and blended tropical fruit hop esters, neutered pine needles, lemon pudding, bready caramel malt, and a slightly perfumed floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is generally quite unobtrusive, and barely supportive in its quotidian duties, the body a sturdy medium weight, and rather smooth, the hops pulling a certain gentlemanly absence. It finishes well off-dry, the faltering, but still agreeable hops keeping the staid malt honest to the end.

A tasty, fairly well-balanced west-coast IPA, the hops not quite up to palate-wrecking levels, and that's a-ok once in while, IMHO. Flavourful, with an AWOL alcohol quotient, easy to drink, and hardly the mess that all you Advent Calendar "open and drink the IPAs early!" naysayers were baying about a few months ago. Party-pooping morons, the lot of ya.

The Tap It IPA is typical of most IPAs that have elevated alcohol. The beer pours a cloudy orangish copper with foamy white head that is not leaving much of a lace. The scent is mostly sweet malt with some fresh hop presence that is leaning slightly piney. The taste is a nice balance between bitter hop and sweet malt with some pine backdrop. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a decent beer.

Poured three fingers of head on a clear, amber colored body.
The aroma is a nice mixture of mango, mandarin and pine.
The taste has a nice fizzy lemon beginning that rolls into a pine and grapefruit bitterfest.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Enjoyable.
