BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Tequesta Brewing Company
Florida, United States

Style: Dubbel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
This rich and complex Belgian Style Dubbel Ale originated in the European Monasteries of the middle ages. The times were tough and food was scarce. However, meticulous monks served the community, and themselves, by brewing a righteously robust beer which provided comfort. With this hearty draught the fasting friars had no need to worry. The biblical brewers provided passing pilgrims with necessary nutrition found in the Dubbel.

Thankfully for us, the amber ambrosia of the monks is still available today, as the Tequesta Brewing Company continues this age old pious process in their new Dubbel Dutch. A miraculous medley of flavors and fragrances balances this secular, yet authentic, Belgian Style Dubbel. Boasting bountiful body with deep ruby hues, the Dubbel Dutch combines spicy, peppery aromas and flavors, with dark fruity overtones, all crafted from a unique Trappist yeast. With over seventy pounds of Belgian candi sugar this ample ale also provides a caramel like sweetness, with subtle hints of nuts and chocolates.

As you experience this divine Dubbel Dutch remember the wonderful words of Saint Arnold of Metz, the Patron Saint of beer. "From man's sweat, and God's love, beer came into the world".

Poured out of a 1.9 oz bottle into my tulip.

A – Poured out a dark caramel brown with a full two fingers of frothy off white/tan head that had solid retention. Spotty lacing.

S – Soft Belgian yeast, light spice and a touch of sweetness in the nose.

T – Nice start with what tastes like brown sugar, not overly sweet but just right. Definitely tastes of Belgian yeast but again its very well balanced. Slight peppery warmth. Malt, cherry and raisins all roll through. Finishes like it starts with a nice soft sweetness.

M – Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Warms you up with the ABV at the end.

O – This is an extremely well balanced and tasteful brew. It’s scary easy to drink even at 8.2%. I like the subtle flavors that balance this well. Some dubbels overwhelm me with the yeast and this is not one. Very nice indeed.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Huge head. Deep brown and reddish body. Retains forever and clings to the inside of the glass.

Smell - Caramel and a bit of nuttiness. Belgian yeast and sweetness.

Taste - Fruitier and much nuttier. Caramel is more subdued. Bitter in the finish with a strange metallic flavor in the back.

Mouthfeel - Well carbonated. Not quite dry enough. Funny aftertaste.

Overall - Not my favorite TBC beer. I was surprised when they chose to bottle this.
