Notes: Fleur de Blanc is a white farmhouse ale with rose and elderflowers. Refreshing with a creamy body from malted spelt.

750 ml bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR. $8.99 ( on sale). 5.8% alc volume. After a rather foam filled pour it settles down and is a hazy yellow bodied beer with a large frothy white head. Aroma of slight barnyard, earth, leaves and a bit of wood and berry. Taste is the same as the aroma but with a bit of rose bud. MOuth feel is fine enough..dryish finish medium small bubbled carbonation.’ OK beer but i think past its best

Pours a very pale, straw-like color with a thin and very quickly dissipating white head. A bit hazy looking through the glass.

I can definitely smell the flowers in this one--rose and elderflowers is what it says on the label, and being no horticulturalist I'll take their word on that. There is also some sweetness, earthy funk, and a light malt pull to go along with the flowery aroma.

Taste is a bit on the earthy side. Definitely get the notes of funk, earth, straw, etc.. that define the style. There is also a good deal of sweetness and hints of herbal/floral notes.

Pretty highly carbonated and a bit lighter bodied in the mouth.

This is a pretty good if light beer. Pretty good flavor for a beer with a relatively thin body. The flowery presence on the nose and their slight presence on the palate are interesting. Fleur de Blanc is an interesting saison, though it is not one of the better versions of the style I've had to date. Still, a nice effort.

Had on tap at Commons Brewery in SE Portland, OR

Pale-straw coloring with a decent white head that dissipated somewhat quickly before leaving an appetizing-looking sticky white lacing.

The rose hips and elderflowers are immediately apparent on the nose along with aromas of fresh citrus and a bit of farmhouse funk.

Incredibly-well balanced on the palate with ample carbonation and a bright and flowery complexity.

This is, hands down, a superb effort. I could literally drink this all day, everyday. My desert island beer list might be in dire need of revamping.

I had this beer on-tap in a tulip at the brewery.

Appearance: gorgeous silvery-yellow hue with just the right amount of haze and a thin layer of creamy white foam. Love it.

Smell: lightly sweet, wheaty and with just a dash of floral character. I really like it.

Taste: soft and wheaty, like a witbier with just a dash of funk. The floral elements are restrained and add just a dash of welcome character. I dig it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: refreshing and restrained -- I like it.

750mL into a tulip. Pours a pale hazy yellow w/ a 1-finger white head.

Aroma is herbal and a little funky, earthy. Wet hay, dried flowers, a touch of pollen.

Taste is light and crisp with some Belgian funk, floral hops, and a touch of bitterness on the finish.

Mouthfeel is dry, a little prickly.

Overall an OK beer, almost a cross between a saison and a witbier.

this is the kind of beer i feel like nobody else is making out there. one of my top couple of favorites from our visit to the commons. what a cool place and what awesome beers. this one has a spelt and wheat base, hearty like a burly granola, a little honey sweetness there, and then elder flowers and rose in the mix as well. really clever and really well brought together. rich golden in color, rather clear for a saison type, with a good airy inch or more of white head slowly relaxing. it smells fantastic, you really do get the cereals first, fresh and different, boldly dosed, followed by the yeast, which is a pretty distinct but also quite tame more belgian than funky saison strain. the flowers themselves are actually more vibrant in the taste than in the nose, which i think is really uncommon with flowers in beer in general, which are usually super aromatic but not all that flavorful, this is the opposite. the flowers arent perfumey either, instead they take on a hop-like role, providing a nice bitterness, floral and blooming and summery. elderflower in front of rose here for sure, but both are there. they are a nice soft and delicate counterpoint to the more robust grain, and the yeast unites it all very well, drying it out in the finish. really fun beer, really inventive, and really good. stuff like this makes these guys one of my favorite breweries out there. absolutely love them.
