A dark farmhouse ale with hibiscus, lavender and chamomile added at the end of the boil. Malted Spelt provides a silky full body that supports the late-kettle flower additions.

Dark farmhouse ale with hibiscus, lavender and chamomile.
on-tap at Belmont Station.
from notes.
tulip snifter.
Arrives a dark chocolate brown with a creamy, light brown head. Looks very much like a stout.
Extremely floral and lightly herbal/spicy in the nose and palate. Quite enjoyable. Faint roasty char backing.
Medium body, with prickly, medium carbonation.
I really enjoyed this one. While quite floral and herbal, I didn't find it overwhelming.

how fantastic to have these guys in the market in colorado now! this is the first of theirs i have had on draft outside of the brewery that i can recall (although that doesnt make it so...). this is an interesting wildish begiany dark ale with flowers added. a murky brownish looking brew, nice and heady, strong aroma of dried berries, various herbal teas, and coffee. i am amazed there is no coffee in this, i get fresh espresso on the nose and fresh grounds in the flavor, mostly in the finish, but quite distinct, must all come from the dark malts in here, which arent so roasty as a stout might bring, but have a nice depth and earthy complexity to them. its so cool because we usually see flowers added to light colored beers, but the synergy with the dark here is obvious. i get the lavender ahead of the others, but not overly pungent, and seemingly adding a blueberry note here as well. the slight sourness brings out the chamomile, which to me has a mellowing tea-like taste, and some grassy fresh bitterness in the end that makes this feel alive and lighter than it is. i dont think i need it to be a wild beer though, there almost seems to be too much happening here, and as much as i like it for being different, its a one and done kind of intense for me. i still taste coffee as it finishes too, which i like a lot, and a neat belgian sort of saison strain too, which i also think accentuates the floral elements. cool beer, i am not aware of anything else like it on the market, and glad to see it here in colorado! probably not for everyone, but this is a remarkably interesting beverage!

-clear, deep brown bottle pour (750 ml) with very fine carbonation, but no lacing. Aroma is uniquely floral and herbal. The malt and farmhouse yeast flavors are topped and crowned by lavender, and other floral and herbal notes. The finish is a tad musty. This is a uniquely flavored brew. (apologies for the redundancy). I am almost always surprised by The Commons' brews...and again.

Have you ever eaten a stick of chap stick? If so, you would identify with this beer. If you have not, you should either drink this beer or literally bite plain chapstick to get the flavor.

Tasted 8 January 2016. I can't resist Commons beers, even though I've had mixed experiences.
Pours a dark brown, clear despite the darkness. Half a finger of medium yellow-tan head, okay retention and lacing.
Smell is an odd amalgam. A little woody, a little roasty, a bit spicy. Mildly sweet. Pretty nice, actually.
Taste is rather blah. It's like a slightly toned-down version of the smell. Strongly woody, malty and bready sweet, somewhat like a marzen or doppelbock. Not bad.
Feel is really good. Medium-bodied, carbonation that's chewy and mouth-filling, lots of big bubbles churning it up.
A decent beer, and rather unique. It could use some clarity, some more specific direction. I'm enjoying it, though I can't grab onto anything that makes me really like it.
