First had: bottle shared by MsRif. Thanks! ;)

Farmhouse ale aged in Chardonnay barrels with 3Font brett.

Slightly hazy, pale golden-yellow pour with a puff of white head that settled down to a thin, wispy layer, leaving a bit of lacing on the glass. A good amount of funky in the nose, grass and light citrus. The taste was similar, crackery pale malts, grassy must, fairly funky, hints of lemon zest and white grapes, with a lightly toasted oak quality. Crisp mouthfeel, light-medium body. If I remember correctly, I think the ABV was around 7%, but it felt much lighter. A nice drink overall, but I'm glad it was shared amongst a group, and not just a couple, because I think 375ml would have been a bit too much for me to finish.

I realize this used a saison base, but in the end, it really just came off as an average saison rather than anything I'd qualify as a "wild ale." I hope Tired Hands hasn't spoiled me too much.

750ml bottle, split

I'm a little torn on the Commons - I dig their brewing philosophy, their taproom and their simplistic bottle design but some of their beers just seem a little off.

Maybelle was a bit "farty" with some offputting sulfur notes. There is definitely a fair amount of brett and anything aged in chardonnay bottles is generally OK by me, but the detractors made this one just OK, when it could have been great.

750 mL bottle poured into a taster.

Appearance - Hazy orange. Nice white head. Some lacing.

Smell - Slight lemon acidity. Pale malt. Fruity esters. Nice.

Taste - Lots of pale malt. Minimal citrus tang. Kinda orangey. Estery again.

Mouthfeel - Delicate flavors with quite a bit of pale malt. Light tang.

Overall - I'm liking this. The components don't do the whole beer justice.

750mL bottle from the brewery. Opened 4.23.11.
The bottle spouted foam pretty aggressively at first, before quieting down. Poured into a snifter with a head of ~1 inch. Color is a pale, hazy yellow, the color of a field of wheat. Smells of barnyard funk, slight citrus, white wine grapes, hay must and the slightest amount of oak. The beginning tastes include a slightly astringent brett funk that quickly dissipates into a zing of orange and lemon. Excellent mouthfeel. Chardonnay and a little bit of honey. Finishes more biscuit-like than I expected before ending dry with a little oakiness. Delicious. Excellent lacing on the glass.

Thanks to Dan for sharing and hosting
Quick review from written notes.

Bright gold with a thin skim across the top, drippy arcs of lace around the sides of the glass.

White wine and barrel aromas.

Tart grape fruitiness, light cheese rind funkiness. Goes pretty nicely together. Medium bodied with a smooth feel. Overall very enjoyable and easy to drink.

Thanks again to Alehousedave!! This one is odd, but shows a bunch of promise.

Big gusher with the opening pours.. but it settles down to a hazed golden brew with nice retention and lacing.

Aromas are all over the place... But the big players that aren't technically "bad" are pretty prevalent.. sulfur with the initial pour and it gives way to a bit of background "bandaid" phenols... lemon essence and dried out maltiness.

The flavor has a nice maltiness that brings things together with a bit of a tartness on the finish.. The phenolic funk is definitely there and is not off-putting for me, but it could develop into something nice after a long stay in the cellar... makes me think of the FFF Herfst when it was in the infancy.

Body is medium/light but a pretty huge carbonation makes things go down a bit better... pretty drinkable once you come around to it

3.75's across the board.
