The Commons Brewery
Oregon, United States | website

Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is the brewer’s beer. Enkel is the name for the table beer at many brewing monasteries. Our’s has malted spelt for a creamy grain character and rich body, as well as malted rye for it’s characteristic spiciness.

growler; into tulip.

Commercial Description: Belgian table beer made with malted spelt, rye and Ardennes yeast.

Pours a hazy, very pale yellow with a thin, foamy white head.

The spelt definitely shines through, with a nutty, wheat like malt base with hints of rye spice followed by faint floral, fruity notes from the yeast.

Smooth, medium+ body, mild, foamy carbonation.

A really enjoyable, easy drinking beer. I'm happy I got a growler of it, though I could probably drink more than that. I hope I see this around more. The spelt adds a unique flavor and seems to help smooth out and add some base to the mouthfeel, as wheat would.

Had at the brewery in SE Portland

A bright hazy yellow/straw body with a solid brilliant white head.

Somewhat muddled zesty, lemony, and herbal with faint whispers of spelt.

Falls somewhat flat on the palate with a crisp, and pleasant, finish.

Not this brewery's best beer. Didn't really register in a lineup that was otherwise stellar.
