Bright orange with sharp clarity, drippy lace around the edges, thin skim that fades to a ring around the edges.

Citrusy orange hop aroma, candied orange peel.

Taste is also pretty citrusy, orange and grapefruit, light malt sweetness underlying, oak is subdued but present. Big and chewy, lasting resinous bitterness in the aftertaste. Sticky caramel malt, almost a butterscotch quality, too sweet. Fruity first and foremost, oak could be more prevalent, but it's a good DIPA. Second time around (2015), not really getting any distinctive Citra or oak, just a sweet caramel bomb. It was better the first time (2014).

Pours a super effervescent gold with a finger of pearl colored head. Superior lacing & head retention

S: Tropical notes, pineapple

T: Pineappple, mango, & little grapefruit, & dryness up front. Slight malty sweetness, more tropical fruit as this warms, some oaky dryness I suppose as well. Finishes dry, with tropical fruit & much juiciness

MF: Medium bodied, perfect carbonation, super balance

Very easy to drink, tastes very similar to the non-oak aged version, slightly more superior I
suppose & easily better than most oak aged IPAs/DIPAs I've tried

October 30, 2015

22 oz bottle, snifter

A – Deep gold and quite orange, with medium haze, definitely unfiltered. A cap of thick white foam, about a centimeter high, tops the beer and disappears slowly.

S – A ton of American hop aroma, grapefruit, melon, and light pine. Smells like it was wet-hopped, a lot of oils here. There might be a touch of vanilla from the barrel. Malt aroma of light caramel and toffee, along with sweet bread crust and sourdough dough. Some lemon-lime citrus on the back end.

T – Flavors are actually somewhat subdued, relative to the aroma. Papaya, melon, grapefruit, and lemon-lime hop flavors are supported by a malt backbone of bread crust, light caramel, and flour. A bit of woodsiness from the oak, along with some tannic quality, very mild. Moderate-high hop bitterness on the finish.

M – A mostly dry beer, despite a lot of juiciness from the malt and hops. Carbonation is moderate-high and body is slightly full/heavy. Hop bitterness is prominent, but beer is well-balanced for everything in there.

O – A really impressive DIPA, a style where it is hard to stand out, but this one certainly does.

Fruity on the nose (pineapple, peach and hops). Super cloudy and straw colored, terrible head retention, but that may be my growler's fault. Entertaining flavor (peach as it enters your mouth, followed by hops on the swallow, oak and alcohol arrives in an empty mouth). Feel is medium bodies and fizzy. Deliciouse beer with character!

Smells tropical and fruity. Tastes of pineapple, and oak. The more I drink it the more I like it!
