Notes / Commercial Description:
Three Blind Mice is inspired by our favorite qualities from English brown ales, German altbiers, and Irish reds. Mother’s trio of beer connoisseurs sipped away many a night, working to find this ideal combination. Mother’s beautiful brown beer is medium-bodied with caramel, toffee, and subtle chocolate malt flavors—all balanced by moderate hop notes and a clean, dry finish.

Three Blind Mice combines components of several malty beers for the unique brown beer experience you've been missing. After lots of research to find the perfect styles for our base, the clear winners were the lighter body and caramel characters of Irish red ales, the soft chocolate and toffee flavors from English brown ales, and the hop component and balance of German altbiers. We used traditional elements from each beer style and added our own touch for one incredible brown beer.

Poured from a relatively fresh bottle into a goblet. I will start unusually by saying that if you think hops have anything to do with this beer than you are just inexperienced..

Look: Pours a dark brown with a fleeting off-white head. I held it up to the light and the body glowed a glorious ruby red throughout.

Smell: Roasty toasty malt abound with a slight fruity yeast characteristic. The aroma is quite simple.

Taste: It tastes largely of simple malts with an upfront rush of fruity ale yeast. There is a touch of lingering brown sugar and toffee but again it is quite simple.

Feel: Medium body and not a lot of carbonation but it does carry it's weight well.

Overall: I did expect a bit more from this brew but there is a discernible quality and richness that opposes the general lack of expressive attributes.

The taste really did not hit me. I think it is a little too hoppy for me with a brown.

Malts fail to leave much of an impression. They come and go on the palate like the wind. Looks great though, it has a beautiful reddish brown hue. Mouth feel is pleasingly thick and frothy.

One of the best brown ales I have had, so far.

A- Pours a deep, deep brown with a touch of red in the body where the light comes through. A relatively big and frothy head forms and sticks around for a long while. The lacing is very good.

S- Medium to dark malts greet the nose first and provide a solid, mildly roasty scent. There is a touch of coffee mixed into the smell underneath the malts. On the back end there is a touch of chocolatey sweetness.

T- This beer starts off with the lightly roasted malts from the scent and moves progressively a little darker and more bitter throughout. None of the coffee in the smell is found in the taste, but more chocolate is present on the tongue. The chocolate is semisweet to a little dark and bitter and is the finishing flavor of the beer.

M- For a brown, this is way on the thin and watery end of the spectrum. There is no detectable alcohol and very little weight on the palate.

Overall, this is just your average to below average flagship brown ale. Nothing to write home about here, but maybe if it was thicker and a little more roasty it would be a little better.
