Formerly Old School Oktoberfest

Old School Oktoberfest is a traditional amber lager brewed to celebrate the fall harvest. Extended aging creates a medium bodied beer with a smooth malty flavor and just the faintest touch of hops. Pull up your lederhosen, raise a stein, Ein Prosit!

12oz can pours a hazy, relatively light orange color with a small amount of fizzy, white-colored head that fades down to a thin ring. Smells of toasty malts and earthy hops. Surprisingly light and ephemeral malt profile with light notes of caramel and hearty bread. Light to medium body with a small bitterness and a moderate amount of carbonation mouthfeel.

This beer was OK. While it doesn't feel watery at all, the overly light body and flavor and lack of flavor depth really make it feel empty. Will not buy again.

Post race beer at the Bass Pro half marathon in Springfield MO. It’s delicious! Light amber, malty-toasty taste, lighter than I’d normally like but today it’s perfect.

New copper penny colored with a fingernail of off white around the rim and covering three quarters of the top. The aroma is of light caramel and marzipan. I’m tasting lightly toasted nuts, caramel, and light toffee. The mouth is light and smooth.

Clear amber color with a modest off white hrsd that recedes to just aring rather quickly, leaving just a bit of lacing.
The aroma is fresh bread with hints of caramel.
The taste is bready caramel malt with some grassy notes in the finish. This seems slightly sweet for the style but not offensively.
The body is light/medium, decent carbonation, very drinkable.
Altogether, a decent version of the Oktoberfest style, not bad for a warm fall day.

Not a typical Marzen; hops more prevalent and a slight floral taste and smell.

12 oz bottle pours an orange-amber color, foamy white head. Soft roasted malt aroma, starts sweet, some flavors of toffee and caramel, medium body, finishes too sweet for my liking.

Hazy dark amber with 1.5 finger off white head. Noticeable malty aroma, bready and caramel with grassy hops. Flavor feels a bit empty, light malt, hay, earth, hint of spice. Pretty bitter, even astringent. Light to medium-light mouthfeel. Fairly dry.

Pours an electric orange that’s slightly cloudy. A thin, white head. Little carbonation.
Good Carmel malt smell.
Not a huge Carmel malt taste. Good biscuit and hop for a marzen.
Mouthfeel a little thin. Nice and refreshing.

Pours a translucent copper-brown with a finger of khaki foam. Head retention is okay. Aroma is nutty, bready, earthy, caramel malts with very light glimpses of herbal, floral, and resin hops and clove. Flavor profile is more malty and smooth, showing notes of nutty, bready, earthy, wheat and caramel malts with light notes of herbal hops. It's very malt forward in the flavor profile. Mouth feel is still, with negligible carbonation. It has a medium to medium-thin consistency. Overall, good for lovers of malt who don't want an absolutely huge beer (i.e. a stout). This one strikes balance, while allowing the hops to play a touch.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 12oz bottle.

12oz bottle bb 12/19/18 poured into a dimpled mug at fridge temp 5.5% ABV. The beer pours bright light honey in color with off white head. The head recedes to a thin film and leaves a few spots of lacing. The aroma is bready Munich malt and a little yeast. The taste is more yeast driven that anything else with just a touch of the Munich listed on the label. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. There is a little buttery finish here that I find unpleasant. It's slight, but it's there. Overall, ok. Too low on flavor and not clean enough to be more than average.

this is a well made beer, and a lot of the mothers stuff is, but its a little sweeter than i like in the style, as oktoberfest is a beer i like to make a day of, and so the drier ones play a little better i think in terms of high volume drinking, but the flavors here are well developed and the beer remains in balance. part of it is that i dont think the lager yeast is as flavorful as some, not as obviously old worldy, and not as influential in the finish. as such, i think the malts tend to run on a little longer than in most. definitely a nice caramel malt profile, layers of bran and toffee and toasted warmth, its hearty and there isnt much of a hop profile here to speak of, light bitterness there is all. medium body, light dried apple notes, a hint of maple, and pretty good carbonation. i know these guys a lot more for inventive and strange beers than i do for brewing to style, but they have done a pretty solid job with something more traditional. if you like them extended a little bit by the grain sweetness, this one is for you.
