on tap at antons in kansas city, i really liked this beer, my first form these guys. its really unique in thats its grain base is almost like a bock or a dark amber, big and hearty, moderately sweet, with all the layers you would expect in something like a barleywine. its pretty thick, dense, not overly carbonated by any means, but somehow enticing and compelling, satisfyingly large. the berries are what make the beer though, they are tart and fresh and not at all reserved. they provide jammy sweetness, juicy tang, and an acidity that helps cut the grain down a little bit. i love the freshness there, and the way this beer bends the style guidelines so much. i found it just a little too sweet for large volume consumption, and its alcohol is not all that well hidden, which i actually almost prefer as it warms up. i also think the strength has something to do with the extraction and preservation of the authentic raspberry flavor, and i would hate to have that aspect reduced because it whats makes this beer stand out. overall delicious, but not something i would do again if i wasnt sharing it. great first impression though from this brewery!

Bottle# 296 pours a scarlet tinged brown with a pinky of tan head. Alright lacing & head retention

S: Big time raspberry, black currant, hints of booze

T: Raspberrry, chocolate, dryness, toasty malt & black curant up front. Chocolate & raspberry mingle as this warms, pluss some cocoa powder, plus a bit of booze warmth & vanilla mingling with some woody hops & a bit of modest smokeyness. Finsihes with a nice raspberry flourish, dry with a touch of caramel & vanilla

MF: Medium bodied with faint carbonation, warming, but also a bit thin on body as this warms

Three Blind Mice is an Alt bier. This seems to be more fruit forward, so I deemed it a fruit beer. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as there is no Imp Alt category...

Tasty & satisfying, not world-beating, but I would buy this again

Deep brown with amber highlights. Fingernail thick tightly woven head of beige head is on top. Brussels lacing. Seriously sweet aroma of a raspberry sauce is all I get,but it is appealing. The mouth is unexpectedly warm and silky smooth. I detect plenty of dark malt, fig, and coffee notes. There's definitely raspberry, but unlike the aroma it is a background note on the palate. A great dessert beer.

22oz bottle from LambicPentameter (many thanks!). No bottling date but this is labled as bottle #1808, whatever that means. Served in a goblet.

Pours a garnet hued deep brown with almost two fingers of beige head. The bubbles fade to a tiny ring around the edge that leaves only a few ocassional patches of lace.

Aromas of raspberry, cereal grains, molasses and a little cocoa.

Flavor has a serious milk chocolate covered raspberries thing going on. Nice! Raspberry, chocolate, molasses, mildly tart stone fruit skin, caramel, earth, tobacco and enough alcohol presence to remind you to respect it. The berries and smoothness of flavor make this not quite refreshing but much easier to drink than you may assume for it's near double digit booze bill.

Creamy, medium full body with moderately sharp carbonation. Semi tart berry, chocolate and burnt sugar finish but that raspberry goodness lingers on the for a really long time.

I still prefer an imperial stout but this is a mighty fine brown ale. The raspberry addition is spot on- enough to be consistently present but it leaves room for the chocolatey caramel base. Not sure I'd go out of my way for it but I'll happily consume it if another chance comes up.
