Formerly known as Materfamilias
From the brewhouse to the barrels, your Mother’s remains at the service of this exquisite imperial stout. Roasted malt brings rich flavors of chocolate and dried fruit. In the aging process, the beer’s interaction with the wood of bourbon, rye whiskey, rum, and brandy barrels dictates the composition of the final blend. Materfamilias cannot be rushed. It cannot be forced. It brooks no compromise. The result is a stout of such complexity and nuance that you, too, will recognize the authority of your Materfamilias.

Appearance - The beer poured a silky black color with a tan colored head topping the glass.
Smell - The triple barrel action was noted with dark chocolate notes.
Taste - While the beer had the body of a milk stout, it had the flavor profile of a heavier stout. The rich chocolate profile gave way to red grape notes. The specific barrel notes were hard to identify individually, but would seem to have been responsible for the dark fruits. It all led to a slightly dry finish that almost made something seem a bit off.
Mouthfeel - Low carbonation and a slick feel typified the body.
Mouthfeel - Not sure what it was, but I felt like something was slightly off about this one.

Very dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Mild malt aroma. Taste is a very smooth lightly sweet malt with little whiskey that is a little thin.

Pours black with a half finger of khaki foam. What head is there bubbles away quickly, leaving an oil-slick of obsidian black beer in the glass. It sits still. Aroma is a huge, containing notes of raisins, plum, fig, chocolate, toffee, and hearty roasty and toasty malts. It's rich, but with a biting malt finish that keeps the balance in check. Flavor profile follows the nose, hitting notes of raisin, fig, plum, chocolate, toffee, and a squeeze of molasses. Roasty and toasty malts firm a strong base, seeing the beer through the finish. There are hits of booze at the mid point, increasing their volume and heat towards the finish. Mouth feel carries a still effervescence with a chewy, thick consistency. Overall, a hearty, boozy stout offering up rich notes without flavor additives.

2016 release. I received a bottle from @jdell15 in a BIF Poured into a tulip glass also provided by @jdell15. It pours a deep, dark walnut color - almost black, with a thin, medium-mocha colored head that dissipated rapidly leaving minimal lacing. The nose is really fragrant: chocolate, coffee, molasses, leather, tobacco smoke, earthy char, and a strong dose of rye whiskey. It reminds me of an old barn (in a really good way!). This is nice! The bourbon, rye, and molasses are up front, along with raisins, anise, and sherry; they're unmistakable but mellow. There is a strong taste of coffee with a high level of acidity. I suspect the chocolate was stronger when first bottled. There's a smoky, woody quality to the flavor. The mouth feel is moderately thick with a low level of carbonation, and I can feel the warming effect of the 11% ABV. Overall, MILF is a wonderful barrel-aged Imperial Stout with tremendous flavor. I'm grateful to have had the chance to try it.

Thanks to FBarber for throwing this extra as part of a trade.
Pours a mostly black color with hints of ruby. A modest mocha head soon dissipates and leaves behind light lacing.
The aroma opens up with nutty malts and chocolate malts that foreshadow sweetness to come. Notes of bourbon, oak, vanilla, cocoa powder, and roasted malts.
The taste opens sweetly and lightly boozy with flavors of bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, and dark caramel. Big full flavored and sticky sweet cereal grains, honey and nutty malts add to the complexity. A roasty flavor, espresso like, also begins to develop, along with black toasted malts, bright hops flavors; add balance and some bitterness. There are also notes of dark fruit, raisins, plum and cherries. Although the alcohol flavor is overall well masked, it adds some nice spicy notes as the drink develops.
Full bodied, moderately carbonated and smooth. A light alcohol spice leads to a warming finish. Easy to drink for the high ABV.
This was perfect for a winter night. I really enjoyed this one and hope to have it again someday.

Thick pouring, and pours pitch black. The head is 2 finger, tan, frothy, and long lasting. Some nice lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose is nice. Rich with licorice, and some chocolate. Got a rich barrel aroma.
Taste - Smooth up front with the chocolate and licorice mixed in with some vanilla and raisin. On the backside is a warm, boozy flavor.
The body is decent. The beer has a nice warm boozy feel that kicks in on the backside.
Damn solid and delicious beer.

Had on tap. Really rich barrel character going on here. The bourbon holds all the other together, with the brandy and sherry coming through on the finish, where as the rum is in the front. Chocolate, vanilla, molasses, raisins, figs, and a sweet coffee drink. Very enjoyable, though admittedly all over the place in the finish.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice dark brown color close to black with an eggshell white foamy head. Some concave lace.
The aroma had a nice boozy whiskey to bourbon sweet woody edge mixing with dark and milk chocolate. Some light notes of dark fruits on the back end.
The flavor takes a sticky sweet meshing of the prior notes and and adds a light vanilla wafers to woody sweetness. Light woody spicy edge coincides underneath. Nice sticky aftertaste of milk chocolate, bourbon/whiskey sweetness.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Definitely has some heat as it's impounding my tongue. Nice sweet chocolatey finish with some booziness.
Overall, I probably should have held on to this longer. Still, it's a pretty nice one. I'd have again. Thanks Russ.

Dark chocolate pour. Retains carbonation. Smells like boozy chocolate. Rich mouthfeel. Tastes like a chocolate bourbon stout without too much sweetness. Richness and alcohol content makes for a nice after dinner drink like a cognac.

Deep dark black pour with chestnut highlights and 1/2 finger of beige-brown head.
Aroma of banana, raisin, burnt caramel, peanut brittle, and milk chocolate.
Flavor is huge. Tons of raisin, prune, caramel, roast malts, coffee, and hot fudge mixed with the complexity of merlot, brandy, bourbon, and belgian yeast. Light roast astringency lingering.
Feel is really viscous and heavy bodied, with tons of stickiness and light yet sparking carbonation, with a nicely roasty and hot finish. Slickness remains on the palate like an oil of sorts.
Overall, this beer is fantastic. I'm so glad I bought a 4 pack and will continue to enjoy this for months to come!!!
