Poured a jet-black color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled so oaky! Bourbon, chocolate, coffee and toffee aromas. This is a slow sipper. Big boozy flavors with hints of chocolate, vanilla, coffee and sweet toffee.

Got a nice fresh four pack for $12...this damn well better be worth it! Poured into a pint glass, even though I would prefer a tulip for this style.

Look: Pours an absolute impenetrable black with a frothy caramel colored head. I held it right up to the light an saw nothing but deep ebony. Leaves velvety lacing like bunting around the glass.

Smell: Wow! Immediately smells strongly of alcohol and raisins, followed by brown sugar, and a vaguely caramelized sweetness. The nose is quite complex but the strength of the predominant aromas overpower the nuances to some degree. It actually smells like the taste of rum raisin ice cream. This complexity comes from the fact that it was aged in rum, sherry, bourbon, brandy and whiskey barrels.

Taste: Extremely potent taste of molasses, rum, raisins, oak, chocolate, and coffee. There is a lingering taste of brown sugar. The alcohol is highly detectable.

Feel: Quite smooth and thick. Coats the mouth with a sticky sweetness.

Overall: This beer is a monster. It's huge, delicious, and very satisfying. It posses the highest ABV of any beer I have reviewed on this awesome website. If you are in the mood for a stout to end all stouts, this is the one. It's like Guinness on steroids times a thousand. Enjoy. Oh, and Happy 420!

Thanks to Bunuelian for handing me this beer unprovoked. 12 oz. bottle consumed in a St. Cloud hotel room. Though after seeing the workers washing eight million sheets & towels right across the hallway, I’ll never complain about my job again.

The pour is black with a persistent lid. Aroma is a bit puzzling as it comes on like a toy hammer. Mild sweetness, vague booziness, but even after 15 minutes, not much. Eh.

I can only imagine what IT trip-wires I’ll set off during my next “ISO: MILF” posting from my work computer. The lack of smell explodes into a MILF-bang in my mouth. Boom! Huge barrel notes, mostly rum with a backdrop of sherry, & enough booziness to half-numb my agile tongue. Light spicing (rye whiskey or brandy?), brown sugar, sweet raisin, black licorice, numb throat. Wood finally shows & lingers, along with the 80 proof & slight smile. Sharp, full, & ridiculously drinkable. I could do this all night.

Four and a half penises straight up. Excellent beer.

Received from @THSdrummer for NBS BIF #5.
Bottle dated 12/23/16 at 42 degrees. Allowed to warm to 57 – 61 degrees. Served in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – initially cherry, by the end light bourbon.
Head – small (Maximum < two cm, semi-aggressive pour), light brown, fizzy, gone within two minutes leaving only a thin one mm partial ring.
Lacing – none.
Body – black, opaque.
Flavor – The cocoa becomes evident as it warms in my mouth, then brandy and raisins, followed by whisky and alcohol heat. Complex and interesting. My tongue’s getting numb. Ends almost cloyingly sweet.
Palate – full, creamy, soft carbonation.

Definitely an interesting brew. Maybe a little too sweet for the style or my taste, but well worth picking up if you can find it. Probably best shared on a cold winter day after shoveling a ton of snow.

Appearance 3.75, Aroma 4.25, Flavor 4.5, Palate 4.5, Overall 4.25.

Black, with essentially no head. Nose is cola, vanilla and blueberries. With warmth, wood and red wine become dominant. Flavor starts with wood and wine, with bourbon undertones. Dark fruits, as well. Sweet throughout. I think I get a tiny bit of diacetyl now and again, but it's not off-putting. Just enough coffee at the end to keep it from cloying. Very nice, lingering alcohol burn.

So many good things to say about this beer. Poured into snifter. Got about 1 inch head with aggresive pour. Very dark brown, with some light around the edges at times. Smells like rum soaked raisins. Also picked up some of the malt early on. Great taste! Dark fruits, and get a little of the rum. Flavor coats the mouth, and a pleasant warming after each sip. A bit on the sweeter side for some, but I enjoyed this immensely. At $12-15 for a 4 pack, the value of this beer is off the chart. I am dissapointed I did not get more .

Wow, I really liked this one here . . . one of the better barrel aged stouts I've had in a while. All these barrels may be a bit much but there is no arguing the layers of complexities it adds to this beer. Really liking the wine and rum attention. Fantastic stout . . . Good beer !

Acquired via trade as an extra and then dumped into a 12 oz tulip
Look - Opaque black with a mocha-colored head of about 3/4" that persisted for about 30 seconds. Moderate amount of lace.
Smell- WOW! This smells amazing. You immediately get a blend of the different spirit barrels: bourbon, brandy, sherry and rum. That's followed by a second wiff of wooden charred barrel and sweet milk chocolate. Surpisingly, the alcohol is not very present.
Taste- A good mix of the spirits with some nuttiness (maybe walnuts), the chocolate, vanilla. Just a really nice sip. Some dark fruits come in as well and really contribute to the taste. Raisins being the dominant one. A bit of booze on the sip, but that is expected with the 11% abv.
Feel - heavy side of medium and a bit chewy. Sweet but not quite cloying. Goes down with a bit of an aftertaste
Overall - This is a review of a beer already had. It's amazing how the pallet changes over time because this time the score is a bit higher, but well-deserved. This is a really good barrel-aged stout.
