not sufficiently weird enough to fit with all the other italian beer out there, which i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. i assume they call this spaceman because of the yeast suspended in the orange honey colored beer. there a billion little particles like stars, orbiting the edges of my glass as i twirl it gently, far out man. the head is short and white, and the beer smells distinctly like peaches. i know there is no fruit in this, but it seems to have that peachy o ring candy flavor to it as well. its all from the hops, which is kind of cool. i expected it to have faded more over time, i have seen this on a shelf for ages, but finally tried it. ill bet it was even more dynamic when it was fresh. plenty of bitterness too though, and even with all the fruit it never appears sweet. surprisingly not very yeasty though for all of the sediment in this one, it doesnt have a lot of yeast flavor. clean finish, lush fuller medium body, and plenty of carbonation. excellent beer, but this is the first italian beer i have had that really fits in any style guideline.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color and has some orange hues along with a light amount of visible carbonation and lots of fine particles visible floating in suspension. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down, leaving a collar of large bubbles around the edge of the glass and delicate lacing covering the surface.
S: Light aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose along with notes of herbal hops and hints of caramel malts.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, with flavors of citrusy hops—grapefruit stand out in particular—along with a light to moderate amount of associated bitterness and muted notes of caramel malts. The bitterness persists through the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seemed like it might have originally had a lot of dynamic aromas and flavors from the hops but these got muted in its trip across the Atlantic.

And the Italian invasion has begun! Though the avant garde beer scene is well documented, Brewfist delivers a taste that might as well be out of America's West Coast. Welcome Spaceman!

Like many an IPA, the medium amber body shares an orange tint and the standard dry-hop haze. As the ale settles, it develops a creamy ivory froth to cap the beer during the entire session and lacing with well defined rings at each sip. Its the quintessential IPA appearance.

Strong citrus aromatics infiltrate the olfactory senses with zesty grapefruit and ripe oranges. A nod to pineapple, apricot and mango comes in a secondary role. Backed by caramel-dipped sweet scent, the balance is supportive but careful not to tread on the hops.

And its that short-lived caramel note that hits the mouth first. But as soon as it plays on the palate, it fades- or is rather chased off by the onslaught of hops at middle palate. Grapefruit juice, orange juice and "Hawaiian Punch" make a lot of headway for the bulk of the beer's taste. But as it turns toward finishing, the bitterness grows from that of citrus rinds to bitter herbs, grasses and pine resin.

Medium-light in body, the ale's early sweetness and creamy carbonation is soon shrugged off in favor of a firmly dry finish with deceptively smooth alcohol warmth.

Ten years ago, this would be considered a world class IPA. But today, this is the common flavor that's expected of simply well made examples. Where it may not be the most stellar of standouts, its only a very good beer.

Served on draught into a half-pint glass at Ma Che in Roma, Italy. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a two finger head of nice soft cream, great thickness, and excellent retention. Colour is a cloudy semitransparent textbook copper.

Sm: Heavy bittering hops, lemon citrus ester hops, orange peel, and a certain tingly tangy sweetness. Pleasant and complex.

T: Lemon and orange, malt, bittering hops (which are thankfully restrained, avoiding the main pitfall of IPAs), and a full bodied barley foundation. Complex, decently built, and well balanced.

Mf: Smooth, with enough coarseness to bring out the flavours. Wet. A bit too thick.

Dr: High price, easy to drink, and of decent quality.

Slightly misty golden, poor whit head, quick to a bit of froth.
Citrusy hop and grainy biscuit, touch of pineapple, light floral notes, light caramel, faint pine.
Rich bitter (more than) sweet citrus up front, lots of grapefruit, underripe orange, some fresh pineapple too. Caramel, grain, faint honey notes. Pine resin in the finish, not too strong, perfumey floral notes, grassy bitter hop too.
Aftertaste has bitter citrus peel, grass, light grain. Pretty dry. Medium body, medium carbonation.
A bitter dry, slightly sweet IPA. Generous with hops, tasty, what more to ask for?! Brewfist really know how to make'em.

Pours a cloudy, copper color. 3/2 inch head of off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight caramel malt, resin, piney hops, hint of yeast, and slight pale malt. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with a high carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight pale malt, hint of caramel malt, piney hops, slight resin, and a hint of yeast. Overall, good appearance and aroma, but body was a little metallic and not well blended.

30 07 13. 2312 on label

A - Slightly cloudy medium yellow with deeper orange colour in the middle. Thin layer of off-white head.

S - Grapefruit, peach and mango up front with some sweet honey and caramel aromas present as well.

T - Bitter up front with some tropical fruit and grapefruit notes present. A somewhat dank flavour is present at first that somewhat diminished as I continue to drink the bottle. Some sweet caramel present as well.

M - Medium body with some good hop oils present. Moderate carbonation.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an orange-yellow color and a cloudy consistency. Some sediment. Had a two inch, fluffy, white, long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: Lots of hops, citrus, and tropical fruit in the aroma. Pretty good.

T: Smelled like it tasted: A decent aroma of hops, citrus (grapefruit), tropical fruit (mango), and a little malt. Definitely a hops-forward beer (almost too much so), but there's also a good mix of fruitiness and malt.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a very bitter, dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Spaceman is a solid IPA, in spite of its overabundance of hops. A solid effort.

Bottle from Beer Deluxe.

A - Dark gold, a little haze, one finger of off white head. Good carbonation. Spotty lace and a film of retention.

S - Citrus fruits, peach, biscuity malt.

T - Peachy, some citrus again, orange. Bready as well with some bitter pineapple. Odd.

M - Good carbonation, light to medium body which shouldn't be so for 7% and a lightly bitter finish.

O/D - Not bad but just a pretty standard IPA. A few off notes like body and lack of bitterness lose it points. Good enough.

Hazy golden orange with a thin white collar and lots of floaties. Solid Centennial-ish nose with something sour and slightly pissy (Citra?) underneath.
Fresh white bread with bit of baguette crust and honeydew with spicy white grape pushing through before lime zest and musty hops end.
Pink grapefruit finish and fennel sorbet linger. Light to medium, crisp, slight chew, soft, oily yet astringent.

Hops, according the the website, turn out to be both Citra and Simcoe (along with Columbus) so there's your funk and piss. Definitely distinctive form Burocracy; leaner and tarter than their other IPA. I'm not sure the hops combo is a good idea, and it's pretty merciless (especially with lager malt and no crystal) but it is unique and ultimately refreshing.

Opalescent orange, a bit oo hazy. Average white creamy foam.
In the smell fresh hop, tangerine, resinous and piney notes, bitter.
A good balancing maltiness in the taste, strong and pleasant bitterness, with the same notes of the smell.
Light body, quite long aftertaste, resinous, piney, tangerine.
Good, and well balanced.

Pours dark amber with a small, off-white head.
Nose shows grapefruit, pine and resin. Underneath is caramel and nutty malt.
Flavours include pine and grapefruit, copious amounts of caramel, followed by an assertive bitterness.
Nice thick mouthfeel.
