750ml bottle. Bottled Feb. 2014.

A: Pours a light chalky lemon color with a a large, fluffy, billowing bright white head that slowly faded into thick and bubbly collar. Huge chunks of rocky lace were left down the glass.
S: Huge juicy tropical fruit, citrus and citra hop nose mixed with hint of lemon grass and touch of earthy, doughy, yeast.
T: Juicy citrus, sweet tropical fruit, clean wheat, bready saison yeast, fruity and earthy brett. Lemongrass in the finish, yeast and minerally aftertaste, creamy and a touch of golden fruit. Mild spice quality, very creamy and juicy.
M: Medium full body, very creamy and soft full carbonation, drying finish, tingly and clean. Drinks very well.
O: A delicious saison. Very flavorful, little to fault. Dry yet super juicy.

Poured into a wine glass from a 750ml bottle.

Pours a nice pale straw golden color. Nice and hazy with and delicate dense white head that is about 1 inch tall.

Aroma is exquisite. Delicate yet earthy with great grassy hop notes. Delicious brett funk with some nice dry woody notes. The hops give the brew a nice American feel to it. Earthy, grassy and herbal mixed in well with the Bretty funk.

Flavor follows the great nose. Notes of earthy grain and grassy hops. Notes of dry oak with some nice barnyard notes as well. Nice slight tartness. Overall a delicious saison with nice funk and earthy notes. Body is nice, light and refreshing.

750ml bottle, Batch #3 dated February 2014, poured into an Anchorage teku.

The beer pours a very hazy, cloudy, golden straw color, hues of orange and copper with some noticeable activity at the bottom of the glass that fades quickly into the fog of the beer. A nice, thick, 3 finger head, white and soapy rests atop the beer that has phenomenal retention and leaves nice tracks of spotted lace behind. The aroma is really wonderful, bright and citrusy, lemongrass comes out well with the citra hops, but there are some nice undertones of oak, bretty funk, straw, pale grain, light yeasty spice and wildflower. The flavors are nice, plenty of bright citrus, wildflower and lemongrass, tangy fruit character with some nice bretty funk, pale grain, mild oak, light yeasty spiciness that produces a nice sharpness to the beer, but overall it's very delicate and has nice brightness to the flavors. The mouthfeel is good, coats very well, carbonation is lively but not abrasive, feels soft and fluffy across the tongue with some nice tartness and an easy finish that is lightly dry.

Verdict: A very, very enjoyable saison from Anchorage. I didn't really know what the expect from this guy, but the more it warmed and opened up, the more I found myself enjoying it. It's right in my wheelhouse when it comes to flavors and profiles and this is certainly one of the better American made saisons I've tried, bright, floral and delicate with nice underlying funk and spice.

Poured from a 750mL bottle.

Milky gold. Lustrous. Smells amazing. Tart lemons, zesty, hint of herbalness. Brett is more overwhelming after I tasted it.

Tastes great. Really gentle flavor, but lightly hoppy. Fruity, herbal, and delicious. Citra is obvious, aftertaste is white pepper and spice, saison yeast is present but mild. Refreshing and enjoyable.

Very good, interesting, worthwhile beer. Would have again. Recommended.

A- hazy bright gold with a thin later of white head.

S- fruity and funky Brett with melon and guava character hard to tell what's the hops and what's the yeast.

T- starts with a similar fruit and funk character as the nose but gives to a lemony tartness in the middle with a funky and citrusy finish. I don't get any wine or oak.

M- very dry with prickly carbonation. Right on point for a Brett saison.

O- enjoyable, but not anything ground breaking in terms of brettanomyces Saisons. The lemongrass is a nice twist that really plays up the lightly tart and citrusy characters of the hops and yeast.

Pours a cloudy, pale yellow with minimal head retention.
Nose contains strong notes of citra hops and lemon. It's a bit grassy as well. Very potent.
It starts subtle with yeasty notes, then comes on tart with some citrus on the tongue. It's light to medium carbonated and medium bodied.
It finishes with a hoppy lemon kick.

I really enjoyed this saison and I'm not a huge fan of the style. The lemon notes really complement the hops very well and the grassy notes have a definite presence without overwhelming the flavor. Definitely recommend this one.

With the brewers pantry opening up to elements of wood staves, wild yeast, new-wave hops and a world of herbs, spices and botanicals, a few daring ale-makers are taking full advantage of these new tools. None are going better than Anchorage and Rodney Brew proves it.

The Belgian farmhouse inspired ale pours with the common canary stained hue of those of the European lowlands, Its prism haze scatters light and brightens the ale within. Jaw-tightening and mouthwatering aromas emit as the mustiness of dried weathered citrus, vinous cork, fresh oak and earthen vegetation brighten the nose and early palate. With just enough sweet and doughy taste and texture to support, the beer's early impressions are of sweetheart candies and wood aged chardonnay.

Across the middle, the ale simply blooms- its tangy sweetness slowly trails and allows the hops and earthy components to sail. The bright taste of tangerine, pineapple, passionfruit and white grape ride along side of leather, dried citrus peel, cedar, aged oak, saddle leather, and a briny or salty nod that's not all and all that different from sweat. As the taste quickly falls on the finish, the peppery flavors from wood spice and yeast balance the fruit and tanginess for incredible taste and texture on the fatter portions of the tongue.

Its light body is held up early with creamy wheat and expressive carbonation. But as both of those fall off, the more vinous chardonnay character takes hold. Its bright acidity bounces off the tongue and evokes a high sense of refreshment- clean, crisp and bracing in its sour finish with elegant wafts of citrus, barnyard and pepper returning as echoes in aftertaste and retro-nasal aromas.

Served from a 25oz C&C bottle into a Crooked Stave tulip.

Appearance- Clear gold with 2 finger white head that left a lot of lacing.

Smell- Some skunky faded hops,Lemon, grass, earthy barrel notes. Fruity and lightly hoppy.

Taste- Lemon grass, citrusy hops, grassy notes, peaches, apples, gren grapes.

Mouthfeel- Well carbonated, with light pucker, and mild booze heat (which might be ginger?). Crisp and easy to drink.

Overall- Nice tart saison with good drinkability. Another winner from Anchorage.

Bottle I brought to share at the pre-FWIBF bottle share held at the Adelaide Inn in Paso Robles, CA.

Batch # 3. Bottled 2/2014.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with malt, grain, lemon, Brett, and funk aromas. Taste is much the same with sour malt, lemon, pepper, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of Brett bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and refreshing, but has much better aromas in my opinion.

Appearance- Received with just a thin sliver of head. The head is a fluffy, pure cotton white while the body is a dull and hazy lemon that appears as very pale straw to lemon in the light. It's almost opaque. A considerable amount of lacing.

Nose- Very lovely saison smell. Lots of citrus that ranges from orange, lemon, to grapefruit with nice funky notes in the background. Some stone fruits- mostly green peach, some apricot. A bit of grassiness. Swirling shows a light tartness.

Taste- Not quite as much citrus on the palate but still an interesting beer. Seems to be a little bit more phenolic than the nose but in more of an earthy manner than in the ashy nature of a lot of clove characteristics. Light notes of orange and lemon but this fades in comparison to the stone fruits which include the peach and apricot but seems to add cherry. Lots of funk, lots of earth, and a good amount of grassiness. Some tartness. Slight vinosity- maybe Chardonnay. Definitely white grapes. Not exactly the flavor profile that I prefer but it works very well. Very light and subtle (not that it lacks presence), even airy. This really makes this beer work for me. Orange peel and coriander start to come out as I continue to drink it. Really good beer with hints of being great.

Mouthfeel- Very light bodied with light carbonation. Tends to airy with a slight effervescence. Nice dry finish.

Drinkability- Very easygoing and has one of those complexities which changes as you drink it. No hint of alcohol. I don't know if I would pay 13 for a bottle (possibly) but it's very reasonable as a part of Upper Lip's Anchorage flight.

Overall- Really good beer that shows how it might be great but it just falls short. Definitely worth a try and another reason why you should try anything Anchorage puts out.

Poured from a batch #3 bottle into an HF wine glass.
A - Color of those first bright rays of morning, light honey gold. An active carbonation relentlessly chasing upward to feed the never ending 1/2" cloud white froth. Cirrus cloud style lacing clings to the glass through the entire experience. First pour is exceptionally clear, then of course the clouds set in as you get a little deeper in the bottle.
S - Warm summer hay, lemon and green grape peel, dance together with notes of white Burgundy, chalk and warm leather. Wonderful dance of delicate esters, herbal lemon, and funk provide hopeful insight to the flavors to be had. With time the funk begins to show who's the boss for sure.
T - Bright herbal, citrus and warm lite biscuit start the show. Pithy tartness is next, with dry grainy center, The green grape skin and barrel notes are welcome elements for sure. Spice notes and a bit of salinity add some edginess to the flavor mix.
M - Starts with a light palate coating, then tartness around the edges, and a rounded cap. The carbonation keeps the palate dancing, as the tart notes build with each sip. The funkiness is cumulative, and the lingering moves between honey drop candy,
lemon, and that Brett bite.
O - A beautiful offering from Anchorage. Delight the senses, challenging in its depth.
The flavors, aromatics and body all work so well.
To be enjoyed for sure.

The is quite delicious and drinks with a great creaminess but is immensely simple in its presentation. The nose is of honeysuckle, flowers, lemon, grapefruit and melon. The flavor is a creamy lemon, floral hop cone, sweet citrus melon or mango and apricots. Very nicely done.

750ml bottle ~$13. I liked Bitter Monk so much that I will grab at least one bottle of any Anchorage beer to give it a try. Cloudy yellow color, incredible pillowy head. Aroma is brett, citrus (hops?), and yeasty spice. The flavor is a very nice combination of brett and citrus, I was sort of disappointed that the Arctic Soiree did not have this brett profile. This was pretty tasty and extremely easy to drink. Now if I could just get some more Bitter Monk.

Aroma is lemon and spice, citrus, grass, cilantro.

Taste opens up bright and citrusy, clean. The lemongrass shines through. Some Belgian yeast adds complexity and softness.

Mouthfeel is light and spritzy, drinkable. Semi-dry finish.

Overall another very tasty brew from Anchorage. They have yet to disappoint.

The aroma is stinky brett with some dank tropical fruit hops.

The flavor is sweet lemoney fruit, earthy brett and some dank fruity hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, another solid brett beer by Anchorage.

Appearance is cloudy straw yellow with a fluffy white head with big bubbled thick foamy lace with long lasting cling.

Smell is a pleasantly complex melange of tropical fruits. Pineapple, lemon and lime most definitely, with a little must.

Taste is floral. The various citrus aspects of the hops, lemongrass and brett come together with a some what soapy, perfume like quality. Some definite barnyard behind the pineapple. The lemongrass gains intensity as I work through it.

Mouthfeel is light, dry, a little oily. Full carbonation makes it swishy, burpy. Some resinous hop oils.

Drinkability is pretty solid. I think the lemongrass is a touch too much, as it most always is in my opinion. Once you can identify the adjunct, there's too much. I think the citra hops and brett exaggerate it as well.

750ml corked and caged offering poured into a tulip. The brew appears a hazy golden yellow color with a white cap of sudsy topping that holds to the glass thick with patchy lace.

The aroma is lemony and grassy with sulfuric notes blending with a little mineral content and earth. Overall, the nose is bright and vibrant with sharp, fresh lemon.

The taste is dry and lemony but not nearly as pronounced as the aroma suggests. Mid-palate are flavors of dry bretty earth and cracker-like wheat to grain inclusion that is bordering dusty. Some resinous to oily lemon bitterness persists into the aftertaste.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is dry and easy drinking. This pretty much smells amazing but the taste comes up short. I dont see this really developing into any real gem, if anything it will lose its wonderful nose and get worse. If offered, id try it again just for shits but I wouldnt buy it.

another great brett beer from anchorage, dont totally understand the christmas looking label, but maybe a brett saison with lemongrass in white wine barrels has something to do with the holidays? anyways, im glad its in the state now, because its darn tasty. very hazy and very pale blonde color under an inflated two inches of milky white head with great retention. i smell brett first, nice and funky, sure to be dry, with a citrus presence and the attendant acid, as well as a hop profile that is more grassy than lemongrassy. pretty simple beer really as the flavors go, nice and dry brett yeast complex up front that fades into what is supposed to be the lemongrass bit, but i dont really taste ti specifically. i get juicy citrus and bittering hops instead, which works just as well. love the funk to it, love the feel, which is effervescently carbonated and medium bodied, yet creamy and bone dry, a great palate. not as unique or as complex as some of their other beers, but the white wine barrel adds a layer to the finish, with woody roundness yet punchy acid cleanness. different and successful. at 13 bucks or so on shelves this is definitely beer worth buying, but id rather have a galaxy or a tide and its takers to make a night of.

A - Pours a hazy, light-pale yellowish orange with a huge foamy white head that lasts forever.

S - Brett, lemon, orange peel, coriander.

T - Similar to the nose, but the Brett and oak really dominate the spices.

D - TOns of carbonation with a light- dry body.

O - The Brett over plays most of the flavors, but still very crisp.
