Here's a beer that you will only taste if you are coming to the Culmimatiom. It's a 14.6 imperial stout aged in A single Laphroaig cask brewed for my brewing partner Steve Marshall. It's for his 60th birthday and will not be sold.

this beer is perhaps one of the hardest to come by that i have ever had, and comes to me via both extreme good fortune and more importantly selfless generosity, i am overwhelmingly grateful to be tasting it. i hear they may release this next year if they get label approval or in different packaging, but for now its impossible to get. jet black and majorly viscous in appearance, but unlike many of its huge barreled stout peers, it has a head and some bubbles in it. maybe a quarter inch of chocolate brown foam, sort lived, but present. the nose on this is captivating,, highly refined booze from the single malt scotch whiskey barrel abounds, with roasted barley, espresso, charred oak, and a faint licorice profile all flash in and out. the taste is nonlinear. more of a fluctuating poly-rhythm of deliciousness, beginning with the stout itself, which is very dry, enormously full bodied and silky going down, and holding just enough bitterness from the grain roast without it lingering. some peaty dankness from the scotch, but i get more of the smoke here than the real earthy peat, although both contribute quite a lot to the overall flavor. booze comes on only at the end, despite being prominent in the nose, and its almost welcomed here, reminds me to slow down and sip, and it serves to cut through the density of this, searing it off my teeth and tongue right as its been there long enough, which makes the mouthfeel of this beer up there with the best i have ever had. i think scotch barrels are underused in beer, especially beers like this, i would love to see more of it. i am very thankful for getting to try this one, truly one of the most interesting and well put together big stouts i have ever had. i am hoping it makes it to market before long, the world needs this.

Almost black appearance with slight tan head. Aroma is an exceptionally pleasant slightly sweet caramel and malt. Taste is also a slightly sweet caramel and malt with a great feel and no alcohol aftertaste.

Pours black with inky dark lacing that makes it look sticky. Nose is surprisingly single note to me, the only knock on this beer. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and viscous. It starts with the dark and pruny hints with some brandy mid and a roasty malt finish. Over all a great beer.

Bottle pour at Anchorage Brewing Company (bottled 3/2014 and consumed 8/2015). I've been wanting to try this one for quite some time and was happy that it lived up to the hype. Smoky, peaty, roasty and rich with a full mouthfeel and only slight alcohol burn despite the 14.6% ABV. Delicious interplay of flavors. Wish I could have brought some home with me...highly recommended.
