L: pours a super thick dark brown. No head, looks amazing.
S: big spirits, I know it's double barrel, but the cognac is prominent. Smooth and sweet barrel aroma, very nice.
T: big sweetness with the cognac starting to shine then the bourbon comes in and mutes it. I don't think the double barrel makes it better.
F: so damn thick and smooth. World class feel, amazing.
O: I prefer the cognac to this, but this was a treat for sure. Awesome beer.

Bottle pour; color leans more towards brown/porter than quad/amber, but that might have to do with there being chocolate notes (like B3 bottles) in place of caramel/butterscotch/toffee. Lots of dark fruit notes on the nose and on the finish once the pour breathed. Booze was evident but not overwhelming, though it was a little thin overall. IMO this might really round out with 6-12 months on it, but I couldn't help myself and had to try it now.

This beer is amazing.

Apparently, it is better on draft, but the version I had from the waxed bottle was fantastic.

A terrific mix of bourbon, oak, salt, toffee, and a highly carbonated second wave of sweet molasses flavor on the finish make this beer truly memorable.

This beer sits rivals BCBW '13 and Aaron b1 in their prime as the best in the style.

For a barleywine, it doesn't get much better than this. Poured from bottle on 1-13-18, thanks to Matthew for sharing! Dirty brown water is what it looks like to me. Smells rich and inviting, with a very faint hint of barrel aging. Damn smooth, with an English barleywine flavor, and once again a hint of barrel. Alcohol is insanely hidden. Was happy to get the chance to try this.

The big man brought out all the barrel aged versions back in October. Cheers!

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium-thicker looking, light tan head with great retention. Dark maroon red or brown body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a ring leaving some dots of lacing down the glass. Beauty, just like every variant.

SMELL: This one is quite woody, with caramel and toffee aromas, butterscotch, some milk chocolate and coconut, and a good dose of oak as well. Mute red fruits underneath. Boozy and woody, same as the Redford 15 month.

TASTE: Lots of cognac, coconut and milk chocolate up front. Big finish of cognac, coconut and milk chocolate, as well as some heavy toffee and butterscotch sweetness. Some decent oak and alcohol lingers as well, though not quite as wood forward as the nose had suggested. Hints of red fruits in there as well.

PALATE: Very full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down silky smooth and finishes sticky. A good amount of heat lingers. Excellent feel for the style, much like all the variants, but this one is even fuller than the rest.

OVERALL: Super enjoyable, though this one is also a touch wood-heavy on the nose, though not as much as the Woodford 15 month. I might be nit-picking, but when it’s this good, you can still separate the awesome from the other-worldly. Thanks again, man!

Very good. You think it might be too sweet but then the barrel dries it out real nicely. I thought the bourbon added an interesting maltiness to the beer. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall, outstanding barley wine.

Absolutely incredible. Dark, nearly completely opaque brown. So sweet and sticky that somehow my fingers ended up sticky. Cognac shines. Somehow this is 17%. Only tastes...13%? God, the only complaint I have about this beer is that I don't know if I'll ever get another taste of it. Better to have loved and lost...

Aged for 2 years in the bottle. Dark amber appearance with slight off white head. Aroma is a nice standard barleywine. Taste is also a standard very smooth rich barleywine.
