Coffee. Whiskey. Beer. What's not to like. Pours pitch black and drinks like motor oil

After having the Spanish Brandy barrel aged version of this beer about a year ago, I expected a big, bold stout, complemented by barrel characteristics, as opposed to an over the top barrel forward beer. Such was my experience with the aforementioned version. This one was the same. A stout first. A viscous, roasted, dry and bitter stout. With delicate barrel characteristics and a some coffee as well. Poured with the viscosity of engine oil, but pitch black. The darkest brown head I’ve seen on a beer. It’s a wonder that this beer sat 15 months in whiskey barrels and had such a subtle barrel note. I think that speaks to the sheer size of this beer.

I don’t usually smoke and drink together, but I paired this with a Cohiba maduro and they both stood up perfectly to one another. World class stuff.

F: medium thickness, coats well and smooth.

This one pours a very dark and forbidding looking black, with a very small head, and no lacing.

This one smells like chocolate, lots of coffee, roasted malt, molasses syrup, oak, whiskey, and caramel.

This beer is incredibly inense. It's so thick, and so many flavors are coming at you from all sides. There's lots of coffee here- roasty/chocolatey/slightly fruity- but it's not a completely overwhelming coffee bomb. The base is super roasty, herbal, and with some slight tobacco tones. There's a bit of smoke, some oak, and light whiskey folded into all these flavors.

This is easily the thickest beer I've ever had- it's honestly absurd. It's a slow sipper due to the fact that it's nearly solid. There's a low level of carbonation. Despite this, it's still an enjoyable feel.

This is a pretty insane and intense beer. Anchorage is so underrated.

Many thanks to tacosandbeer for this can.

A - Dark brown pour with minimal lacing.

S - Bourbon/whiskey aroma with intense molasses and dark roasted brown sugar.

T - Oak tannin, toasted raisin, molasses, whiskey / bourbon, vanilla. This beer has layer after layer of complexity.

M - Thick and viscous mouthfeel.

O - A MUST seek!!!!

Pours blacker than most beers I’ve ever seen. Truly black as it gets. The head is even dark brown like tar. The smell of the beer is sweet with molasses and burned sugar. Oak and some coffee in there too. The taste is rich with chocolate whiskey flavors and wood. The feel is dense and thick, light carbonation which fits the style nicely. Overall this beer is massive. Very impressed and pleased to try it.
