My Tavour foray CANtinues with yet more CANs that they have shipped to me since signing up. I had a pretty good run during New Beer Sunday (Week 693), but I was left feeling unfulfilled. I am doing my best to get to these as quickly as possible simply because they are just so intriguing. It is an integral part of The CANQuest (tm) to have this inherent curiosity.

From the CAN: "WolfSkullJack.com"

The above website references the very disturbing B&W drawing/illustration of the CAN's label which is not done justice by the approved pic. I have to agree with the photographer, however, since the name is of greater importance than the graphic. Shame on Anchorage BC for not working the verbiage in around the picture!

I Crack!ed the vent and CANmenced a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass, but to no avail. Right from the start, it was pouring with a haze that I knew was inherent in the beer & which was not going to go away. 8=( A hazebro DIPA?!? OMFG. I scurried over to where I keep my anti-GIRD pills & quickly took one while the beer puffed up with two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with good retention, leaving behind a load of sticky lacing. Color was a turbid Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) & I have seen river water following a heavy storm that was less cloudy! This was an embarrassing mess! I would be ashamed to claim this as my own if I were a brewer. Nose smelled like an Orange Dreamsicle with a light grapefruit background. Okay. Mouthfeel was big, full & creamy. Good! The taste was actually pretty bitter, very citrusy, much more towards grapefruit than orange, although I still got orange. This CANfounds me - I thought that the use of lactose was to sweeten the mix. I was not getting the value added here, but at least it was neither sweet nor tropical. It should have an inherent bitterness as a part of the style, which it did, but the optics were rather off-putting. Finish was dry, bitter, about what I would expect in the style. I still wonder what effect filtration might have had on it. YMMV.

Appearance – Hazy yellow body with a two finger head.

Aroma – Citrus, mango, passionfruit.

Taste – Pine and some grapefruit pith. Not overly bitter.

Mouthfeel – Thick and sticky with some creaminess.

Overall – Not a bad beer altogether, but could have used more depth of flavor.

Canned 7/25/18, shared with rudzud
Super pillowy creamy 1 finger thick head fades semi slowly, lots of thick lacing, super murky pale orange-yellow color

Nose big sweet candy fruit, candied orange peel and citrus, little mango, apricot, stone fruit, touch of tropical fruit, hint of alcohol and creamy wheat doughy malt

Taste some bitterness kicks in out front, sweet candy, apricot stone fruit candy and a little cotton candy bubble gum thing, spicy hop notes, some citrus and candied citrus, sweet doughy malt and gristy notes, some warming alcohol, drier finish with more alcohol and citrus stone fruit candy lingering

Mouth is med to fuller bod, little soft creamy, lighter carb, some warming alcohol

Overall OK but not great, sweet candy and boozy, nothing really pops,

Pours hazy, orange-gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is pine, tea, orange juice and tangerine. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation and slightly bitter. Flavors seem a bit muddled. A mix between a Northwest and NE IPA. Not bad, but I prefer other Anchorage beers.

16oz can served in a can-shaped Flatstick Pub glass. Don't see a date on it. Gift from a friend at work.

Pours hazy grayish amber (reminds me of Adroit Theory in the color), with a big coarse head and a lot of carbonation. Smell is very nice. Very juicy, tropical, but I can't pick out much that's very specific. I just like the smell of it.

Taste is bitter and fruity and dry and drinkable. Fruitiness lends an appearance of sweetness, which I think is mostly a mirage. Finish is bitter, piney.

Mouthfeel is dry and light. Overall, this is a very good beer.

16 oz can- Pours very hazy with a large white head with nice retention. Aroma is typical hazy, tropical fruitiness, mango, tangerine, citrusy. The taste is similar, with a tinge towards the piney hops, the citrus is there, along with some caramel malt.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this. Canned 7/25

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy golden orange hue with a white head that fades to leave light lacing and wisps.

S - Aromas of toasted malts, sweetness, orange, candied fruit, no alcohol.

T - Taste is similar to the nose bud orange peel and juice, melon, lightly grassy. Decent amount of sweet malts as well.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a rather decent dipa. Would love to try it fresh.

This hits all of the characteristics I want in the NE Style IPA. The only area I’d somewhat ding the beer is in the smell, but I’m nitpicking in that I don’t find it on par with the aroma I get from the best of the style with breweries like Trillium and Toppling Goliath that comes through as Sweet Tart candy. The aroma of Galaxy and Simcoe hops is still delightful here.

Grassy, tropical fruit, stone fruit Galaxy with some catty and piney Simcoe. There’s no secret to the flavors here. It’s the both hops turned up to 11.

The body is absolutely perfect. Pillowy soft and creamy.

I wish I had more than one can, and I wish the nose was more prominent. Otherwise, world class stuff.

1/18/19 canning of this Galaxy and Simcoe cryo hop beer... Pours and opaque muddled golden orange color, like orange-grapefruit juice, but with a tall head of fluffy white foam on top... Head persisted all the way down trailing lace sheets behind... A real juicy, with ample impressions of orange and grapefruit, more sweet than bitter, but not too tangy... Fruit smoothie-soft and smooth - a real plush body leaves a light shellac of fruit leather resin and faint pine behind... Superior NEIPA-style beer, that keeps the style fresh and interesting...
