Anchorage keeps the barrel aged system rolling all year and I love it. Kamimura uses the oak foeders to balance this complex beast. A vanilla dream. A dark abyss of bitterness cut by the sweet coconut. The bottle lasts for hours even at 500 mL. A stout that you get lost in.

Pours out midnight black just as one would imagine of an Anchorage stout.

Nose is utterly dominant vibrant, fragrant coffee. Roasty and peppery. This one reminds me a little of Blessed. Chocolate bundt cake with the vanilla frosting. Toasted coconut on top. Some smokiness as well perhaps from the roasted malt and the oak. There's heat coming from this as well, the booze rising.

Taste follows similarly. Coffee is huge, chocolate cake sweetness, booze heat, vanilla and coconut. The coffee is strong but the sweetening of it creates an almost coffee ice cream quality.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied, smooth, and dense as usual. Booze hits the palate and evaporates. Tannins join in and make a rather drying back end. Cloying but also drying. Like ink that dissipates.

Overall this a damn good one from Anchorage. A great sipper that packs each sip with a poweful punch.

Look - black thick syrup with lacing but very quick disappearing head and no real rimming
Smell - Woody rich chocolate coffee slight coconut
Taste - Boozy woody barrel with a rich chocolate forward with a nice blend of coffee vanilla and coconut, nothing overpowering.

its cool that this even exists, and cooler still i guess that anchorage is coming to idaho now, but this was like 70 bucks for a small bottle, which, i get it, cool ingredients, epic barrels, intense processes, long ageing, but i mean, come on, i can get some of the best wine in the world for less dollars per ounce, criminal how inaccessible these are, even though they are around now, i dont dispute them being worth the price, im just frustrated that this is where beer has gone, we all know they are making grotesque margin on these, but it is what it is, and im the one buying it, so whatever. coffee, coconut, vanilla, absurd barrel treatment, pretty much all the oak in the world. about as viscous as beer can be, seems almost like i shake it out of the bottle line diner ketchup, leggy as they come, close to black, almost more jelly textured than liquid, very little head, not sure a bubble of carbonation can even rise through a liquid this thick. the nose though is incredible, very dark, earthy, terroir forward, deep roasted coffee, along with sweet bourbon, natural vanilla bean, and candy level coconut, super cool combination, hints of milk chocolate, caramel, licorice, cigar, and old rum, really neat, whiskey driven too for sure, char, dark cocoa, even cooked banana, this is some sort of sundae thing. the flavor agrees, super super super sweet, palate coating, it hurts between my teeth, and seems like small doses even before the alcohol becomes a factor. frustratingly sugary even, but its hard not to be in awe of the barrel aspect, so woody, wet, boubon dripping, and soaked in sexy vanilla too, the malt profile works with all this of course, and the coffee adds needed bitterness, low end, and faint acid even, which usually i dislike in these but am thankful for it here. candied and diabetic, thick as wet cement, delicious, but kind of over the top too, price aside, this is a once in a great while kind of drink, and is not like the fourth or fifth one of these ive had from anchorage that basically does the same thing. respect, its great, basically bourbon meets beer, but its more than is necessary even in its refinement, and im not sure ill get after this again, even if it was priced for the people...

Midnight black stout pour, brown cap slowly fades. Taste features a lush and dark coffee, with rich dark chocolate fudge, earth, bourbon, vanilla and char with the coconut grows through the sip crescendoing beautifully. Smell is even more coffee forward, dark chocolate and brighter oak more too, coconut more omnipresent but not super strong here. Feel is thick and heavy with coffee percolation, warm, and smooth in a dark way. This is a massive coffee stout with a refined edge. Perfect for the dead of winter

poured from a black-waxed 375mL bottle into a TG DBA tumbler. pours a shiny, oily black with a small dark brown foam cap that quickly fades away. the nose on this is absolutely incredible. rich chocolate and coffee, sweet vanilla and coconut and bourbon to round it all out. wow. taste is damn near as good as the nose with a little more harsh bourbon in the finish but the coffee and vanilla are beautifully combined with faint coconut and a sturdy, chocolaty base stout. thick, full mouthfeel with enough carbonation to make it almost too easy drinking for 15%. this was great. decadent, rich, filling, probably could easily be labeled as too sweet by more than a few beer drinkers but i loved it. never wanted this bottle to end.

Pours deep, dark black. Aroma is well balanced coffee, vanilla & bourbon. Taste follows nose but much more intense. The vanilla more present in taste. Mouthfeel is really full to match the presence of the nose & taste. Incredible stout.
