Bottle dated August 2012, Batch #2

- Pours a hazy bronze orange with a healthy inch of foam that dissipates quickly.

- Notes of fruit tart, floral saison, and bitter hops.

- A mild fruit tart fills the mouth and transitions into floral and spice notes. The finish is a little funky and the surprising hop bitterness lingers for a bit.

- Overall a solid beer. The fruit sour and floral saison characteristics add complexity to this beer, but also make it sort of muddled, especially with the bitter hopped finish. I would prefer a stronger sour fruit tartness profile.

Date on bottle reads August 2012

Appearance: Pours with a light head of about a finger and a half. Orange color with accents of blood red. Light to average active carbonation active in glass while drinking. Some random lacing left on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Filled with sour grapes and a grassy, earthy aroma. Orange peel and some tropical fruits can be picked up as well. A solid hoppy backbone with accents of straw and pine as well. That dirt like earthy aroma keeps popping back up and adding some unique tones to this aroma.

Taste: Incredibly smooth front on this brew which I assume has mellowed from age. Earthy accents to this saison mix well with some sour grapes. The body and back end have developed into a funky tart flavor which is complex and interesting. The finish is like I said a lot of funk with some tropical tones still left from the Citra dry-hopping.

Mouthfeel: Excellent transitions of sweet to a dry finish. Palate is left dazzled with everything going on here.

Overall: There was one bottle of this left on the shelf and I may have to go back and get it. I would love to have tried this brew fresh as well too. Outstanding complexity and a truly interesting drinking experience.

I can't praise this beer enough. My absolute favorite. Tastes as advertised, complexity comes in waves. Different aspects shine through as the beer warms or is swished in the mouth, or as the aftertaste is appreciated rolling the tongue between the gums and cheeks. I've shared every bottle I've had, and I inevitably wish I had opened and warmed another as the bottle nears its finish.

Cheers to Anchorage for doing everything right.

A: Cloudy orange leans towards pink (think pink grapefruit juice). Voluminous head if not poured carefully.

S: Citrus, rose, wine, floral hops

T: Wonderful complexity, ventures far from a typical saison. Follows smell with the addition of oak and light funk

M: Brilliant sediment, silky, bubbling

O: My not deliver if expecting normal saison qualities, but I'm in love
