Well, this is one hell of an interesting beer. I haven’t had a Belgian IPA and a long while, and I don’t think I’ve ever had any beer with kumquats. This sounds like it could be a disastrous beer if any random brewery was making it, but I trust that Anchorage got it right. Let’s dive in

Pours a cloudy yellow gold with 2 fingers of creamy off white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

The nose has a decent amount of funk, but it’s quite hoppy as well. I’m picking up on aromas of lime zest, wet hay, earthy hops, grass, crackery malt, white grape, juicy papaya, coriander, and white pepper

The clash that occurs in taste is a bit odd but I can mostly get on board with it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon juice, pineapple juice, bready malt, coriander, earthy hops, lemongrass, white pepper, and light kumquat. The swallow brings notes of bready malt, black pepper, pineapple juice, earthy hops, lemongrass, coriander, tannic white wine, stone, and light kumquat

A light medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes neutral but refreshing

This is a weird one for sure, but it’s still quite good. I just wish it was a bit more balanced

What a fun beer. Cloudy as hell. Minimal head and lacing. Has the scent of a funky IPA. There is definite hoppiness, but there is definite Brett presence. Body on this beer is amazing. Refreshing. Very clean, mouth watering, assertive with a medium alcohol presence. I’d like to tell this beer to not struggle with its’ identity, just be itself. Because darn it, it’s pretty good.

Had this on 2012-10-20 (from tasting notes in a notebook I just found!)

A - Pale yellow with a 2-finger head

S - Fruit, umami, overly ripe peach, cumquat, bread and some funk

T - Tart, lemon, bread, grass, earthy/herbal spice

M - Very carbonated like champagne, light body

O - Like Sierra Nevada Brux with less malt.

Batch 7, Oct. 2014

Appearance: Pours a hazy goldenstraw with a massive head that was not surprising for a five year old Brett beer; clumps of lacing cling

Smell: The leathery, woodsy Brett tones dominate (again, no surprise) with the white wine oak barrel and the coriander/peppercorn blend also prominent; very Belgian smell with the Galaxy impact long gone

Taste: Tropical fruit forward (I'm surprised) with papaya and a hint of pineapple; the coriander and peppercorn emerge, along with the kumquat bitterness; oaky, vinous and leathery, through the middle, with a grassy, herbal finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body but over-carbonated (again, no surprise, given the age)

Overall: Even with five years of age, this is still an impressive brew whose flavors have developed in interesting ways

Thanks, kevindp9, for the opportunity

Poured a cloudy yellow body with great head and soapy lace patches down the glass. Spicy, zesty, funky aromas along with hints of fruits like pears and floral notes. A woody smoothness makes it easier to drink b/c it is crisp, mildly bitter, light fruits come in with touches of sweetness (like white grape), along with a spicy, peppery, funky zestiness and a crisp clean finish with lively carbonation.

Really pale hazy look. Aroma is spicy with coriander and lemongrass notes. Taste is slightly astringent, a bit tart, dry, grapefruit rind bitterness on the finish. Light body with high effervescence.
