Almanac Simcoe Sour
L: Hazy straw gold. White head with little retention. 4
S: Old books, lemondrops, band aid, a little barn, pine. 4.75
T: Medicinal, lemon tartness, farmy. Wine barrel comes through. Lactic sourness is moderate and finish is dry with a lingering citric tartness. 4.5
F: Light bodied and moderately carbonated. Dry finish. 4
O: A lot going on here but it's all in check. Enough funk to make it really interesting but not too much that it's overpowering. It's like Fall '97 that way :) 4.5
Bottled 9/2016

Shared on 6/5/16. Pours a golden yellow will small white head that quickly disappears. Good funk on the nose that intermingles with citrus notes. Taste brings sour/citrus to the palate, but no real "heartburn" effect, so can definitely drink a lot of this. Would drink again.

Pours an opaque yellow/gold with a super thin white head that fades fast.
Nose is assertive simcoe hops that is appealing and inviting. "Green perfume," white pepper and unripe peach/stonefruit nose that is very complex and exciting.
Mouth feel is light carbonation and great balance with an assertive inviting and "puckering" sour.
Flavor profile is a fresh, citrus, lime, green peach fruit tone that is really good and very drinkable by itself or with food.
Finish is fresh and minty.
Complex and good effort on this one.

A decent sour from Almanac. The hops come through but are not really needed, the wine is not really there.

375 ml bottle into a tulip glass.
Pours a bright, but cloudy yellow. Big two finger head that stays for a while, Good amount of foamy lacing. Smell is sour, yeasty, herbal and a little citrus from the Simcoe, white grapes, a little mint. Some black pepper at the pour with the head intact. Taste follows with the yeast, more wine than grapes and more than the nose. It's sour, call it medium sour, still get a little mint. The Simcoe hops really add a lot of flavor and cut the sourness a bit. No notable bitterness. Smooth, great body, well carbonated.
Another terrific offering from Almanac, a flavorful and complex beer. Just as good as the the Citra version, I love the flavor twist the hopping provides. Not cheap, but well worth your purchase.
