Notes / Commercial Description:
For this special release, we set out with the goal of making a beer where every ingredient and process contributed to one ambition: creating layers of apricot flavor. Brettanomyces yeast creates tropical and stone fruit flavors in the barrel, which we matched with a small mountain of San Joaquin Valley apricots and finished with a delicate dry-hop of aromatic hops. From the yeast, to the fruit, to the hops, every aspect of this beer adds apricot flavor and aroma – resulting in a delicious wild ale.

Tap @ Brewdog Bristol - Pours cloudy golden with small white thin head which quickly disappears. Nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Aroma - Fruit front - apricots, lemon notes, Tropicals - papaya, Taste - Sweet fruity front - apricot, lemongrass, papaya, light yeasty brett at the back, crisp tart finish. Another well balanced wild ale.

Gold with a touch of orange highlights and very hazy. There's an inch and a half of densely packed bright white foam. The nose is initially packed with sweet, juicy apricots and a just a touch of tart brettanomyces. It faded pretty much after a couple of minutes. I'm tasting ripe apricots with just a touch of light funk as a background note. The mouth is very dry, highly carbonated, and crisp.

375 mL bottle. I poured myself some yeast, so it's cloudy while the other glasses are clear. Smells of apricot, white wine, a little lemon, and some yeastiness. Tastes pretty tart. Pleasant apricot tartness. Oak. Some vanilla and white wine. Yeasty finish, but that's probably by bad pouring skills. Medium body. Nice all around.

Really lovely nose on this one, such a pleasing mix of sour/Brett/light wine barrel/apricot. Palate wasn't quite as good, held back by a slightly thin and zingy body, the apricot notes present but subtle. A pleasant pour, to be sure, but not sure, as usual, the price of admission was worth it.

Pours a hazy but gorgeous light golden orange with a quarter finger of straight white foam and rather active carbonation.

Very nice citrusy fruit, apricot, and other stone fruit aroma, with a slight musty bretty funk and a noticeable amount of lactic acidity.

Apricot stands out a bit more in flavor, but the other notes I was getting in aroma seem subdued in comparison. Definitely not as much acidity as others in this series. A nice slight bretty funk.

Light-bodied, medium-high carbonation, prickly carbonation, tart, very refreshing.

Overall, not my favorite from the series, but a very nice variant indeed.

375 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours a hazy, cloudy peach color, no head retention, some slight lacing, a good amount of carbonation streaming up the sides, looks pretty solid.

A: Apricot, peach skins, brett funky sourness, fruity, hints of oak and white grapes, lots of depth and complexity, really nice aroma.

T: Hit of apricot and peach like tartness up front, brett funkiness, some oak, white grapes, aftertaste is of more apricot and peach skins, very dry finish, no alcohol coming through at all, very nice.

M: Light/medium bodied mouthfeel with high carbonation and a very dry finish.

O: Very nice, lots of apricot tartness and peach skin notes, nice touch of brett, oak, and white grape characteristics, complex, balanced, very tasty, going to pick up another bottle to age and see where it's at with some time on it. If you like apricots, peach, oak, and white grapes, you'll enjoy this one, this maybe the best Almanac sour I've tasted.
