Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This West Coast IPA features an explosive aroma of citrus, tropical fruit and dankness from a blend of Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Hallertau Blanc and El Dorado hops. Intensely hoppy without overt bitterness, a light malt backbone balances this IPA, giving it a clean finish and making it a beer to be enjoyed again and again. Inspired by San Francisco but brewed to be enjoyed everywhere. Enjoy with super burritos, hangtown fry, and rich cioppino.

12 oz can. Pours very hazy dark gold with a big fluffy white head that retains well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is bready malt with fruit and dank resiny piney hops.

The flavor is bready malts with peppery piney resiny hops and some fruit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and watery.

Overall, a decent IPA, but a bit mellow and malty.

12 oz can with "born on dating near the botom of the can (8-4-16)

Pours lightly hazed light orangy amber, off white head staying at about the 1/2 inch level. Then leaving decent looking bits and strands of thicker lacing.

Mango, pineapple and assorted tropical fruit all over the nose

Fresh and fruity, with waves of more tropical notes....very enjoyable IPA....drying but not at all bitter hops dry out the finish...soft and pleasing mouthfeel...well worth seeking out-go get some

Looks translucent dark yellow with quickly fading average head and lots of lacing. Smells of pine and citrus hops with malt backbone. Taste is of lemon and pine and herbal hops with decent balance of malt in the back. More than the sum of its parts; this one comes together into something nice and easy drinking for an unseasonably warm 65 degree November day. Not exceptional but well done.

Poured from a can dated 8/2 into a tulip glass. Head is creamy, about a finger's worth, but doesn't linger long, however, there's some lovely lacing along the sides. Not unfiltered, but definitely cloudy. Looks like tangerine juice -- an attractive pale orange. Nose is a little muddled and not particularly bright. There's an obvious dankness unique to West Coast IPAs -- less citrus and more hop pellet. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin with a dry bitterness on the back end. Taste is also a bit confusing -- there's some tropical fruitiness way in the back, but it seems pushed to the side in favor of this hoppy, dank, resiny flavor. Overall, I was happy to snag a fresh can of this and I love Almanac's packaging. This beer is not for the New England IPA lover who's craving something fruity and juicy, rather this is kind of a throwback to west coast resiny IPAs from a few years ago. Quite drinkable and the ABV isn't off the charts. A solid buy, but I don't know that it'll be in my regular rotation.

Ah, sweet, another generically fruity IPA, with astringent bitterness and an orangey glow. Definitely the style of the day, but my personal preference.

Draft pour to the rim of a shaker. Thin white head with some lacing on a light straw color with some haze. Funky yet clean nose, citrus. Soft feel with a balance of funk and hop, malt presence, leaves a bitter finish that stays a while. Light carbonation.

A thanks to the captain of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a rich golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, malts. Taste is oranges, pineapple, juicy, some malts are present. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is smooth and tasty.

Hazy gold with a thick foamy head that quickly recedes to a fine layer. Smell is heavy with spicy fresh hops...grapefruit peel, pineapples, peaches, and pine needles over a whiff of toast. Bright fruity hop flavors like mango, orange, apricot, and passion fruit mix with a spicy dankness and solid bitterness. A little grain accompanies the grapefruit juice sweetness in the finish. Medium bodied and crisp. A satisfying, well-made West Coast IPA.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber, rather fizzy on pouring, with half finger white head with good retention despite the fizziness. Aroma is exactly as described by the brewery, citrus hops, tropical fruit, a bit dank with a mild caramel malt.Flavor is hop dominated, with citrus rind, a hint of pine and dankness, light tropical fruit, light neutral malt. . Finish or lingering citrus rind hops with a lot of grapefruit. Medium bodied with active, peppery carbonation. Nice citrusy hops with a good intensity throughout and a satisfying hoppy finish that lasts well after the sip. The malt is a little light for my taste, but appropriate for the non-caramel oriented Western IPAs.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that settled down, but left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge, and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of tropical fruits are present in the nose—mango and passionfruit seem to stand out in particular—along with hints of pine.
T: The taste follows the smell but has stronger flavors of mangos along with notes of orange citrus and passionfruit, with some pine towards the finish. There is only a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA is packed with lots of interesting aromas and flavors without having much in the way of bitterness. It also tastes quite fresh.

On tap at BC's Pizza & Beer

A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy white head that settles to a firm layer and leaves plenty of nice lacing.

S: Mix of fruity, herbal, and citrus hops, a touch of pine, light malt, and just a hint of sweetness.

T: Dank, herbal, pine, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, lime, fruity notes, melon, peach, passion fruit, light malt, and a hint of sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Hop combo isn't my favorite, but it's still a solid beer.
