Was kind of underwhelmed by this coffee Stout definitely more roast forward than actual coffee bitterness. Could have definitely used a bit more baker's chocolate to balance. Was pretty creamy and went down smooth with the 9% ABV. not disappointed just not worth the admission of almost six bucks for a can

This is my first Almanac beer. It's black in color, with a thick tan head. The aroma is rich chocolatey and coffeeish -- with some herbal hops also in evidence; an enormously appealing nose. Bittersweet palate of dark coffee and dark chocolate. Smooth and creamy on the palate. A delicious, soothing stout.

Pours a deep, dark burgundy that sits near black in the glass. One finger of khaki foam. Aroma is medium-bodied coffee and lots of it. Toffee, raisins, and English, toasty, and roasty malts. Flavor profile leans back into medium-bodied and clean coffee. Raisins, chocolate, toast, and light roasty malts round it out. It's mild, despite the ABV, that coffee thinning it out a touch. Mouth feel is still in effervescence, with some fluffiness around the edges. It's medium in thickness. Overall, coffee is prime and clean, and the rest falls into place. It's detriment is that it's pretty mild in any intensity, lacking a deep personality, but this may be preferable for some.

Nice head. Earthy coffee beans on the nose, with vanilla and coco, sweet overall. Taste is coffee at first, a bit acidic, becoming sweet caramel, notes of chocolate, then a bit boozy and rich, with some dark fruit and molasses on the finish. I appreciate that this starts as coffee and then finishes a bit stronger and richer— it seems like a lot of coffee stouts are the other way around.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Imperial / Double Stout
Glass: Rip Current 8-oz. beer glass
Price: $14.99 for a mixed 4-pack
From: Blind Lady Ale House
Purchased: March 17, 2021
Consumed: March 21, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Nov. 24, 2020
Grabbed a special St. Patrick’s mixed 4-pack when I saw it available at Blind Lady Ale House. I love that BLAH is doing these lately as I’m on their website every day. I had a taster of this once, giving it a 4.25 on Untappd on Dec. 24, 2019 and writing, “So damn smooth. Excellent, but probably world-class.” Online description I found called it “BOOST is a bold and decadent stout turbocharged with coffee and vanilla beans. We partner with a new coffee roaster for each batch. You can check the canning date on your can to learn more about our awesome coffee partners!” (NOTE: It was Boast Coffee).
Poured a pitch-black color with two fingers of frothy-to-fizzy tan head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Poor lacing. Bad retention. (Sight - 3.00)
Smelled black coffee, roasty malts, char wood, ashtray, cacao, bitter dark chocolate, hints of cinnamon and mulling spices, and toasted nuts. Not as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted even better than the smell. Got bitter black coffee, roasty malts, char wood, ashtray, cacao, bitter dark chocolate, hints of cinnamon and mulling spices, sticky molasses and toasted nuts. Does not taste 9 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Not quite as good as the first time I had it but still lovely. Just an excellent stout. (Overall - 4.25)

Can pour- dark as night with short khaki head leaving minimal to no lacing. Nose is coffee forward with some roasty malt background. Taste follows more or less with a bit of cocoa and the coffee lingering on the finish. Good breakfast option.

Coffee is the majority of the smell there is some sweetness, some alcohol and then quite a bit of vanilla.
The coffee flavor is intense. It's seriously all coffee. There is a touch of bready alcohol but it's almost all coffee. It's a bit much for me but I'm sure you guys would like it.
It's full bodied, thick. It has little bubbles that make it really smooth. The finish doesn't stop It's just dry coffee forever.
Overall it's good. Seemingly it's more coffee than beer but I guess that's what happens when you age a stout with a ton of coffee beans. 5 out of 6.

A: Pours from a 16oz canned in December into a snifter a very dark brown bordering on opaque jet black; one finger of dark khaki head fades away.
S: Balanced ‘boost’ of strong, fresh coffee as well as a solid dose of authentic vanilla sweetness; they blend well together with impressions of flavored coffee and fresh roasted coffee beans. Roasted malt as well.
T: Front-to-back coffee, roasted and not acrid or burnt, with a moderate but fitting bitterness; as well as a clear vanilla character that fits well. Roasted malt/stout backbone holds it al together.
MF: Somewhat standard-fare here; mildly creamy, medium-bodied.
O: A really nice coffee stout; the coffee is well-executed, there is really no ‘off’ flavors, minimal burnt or bitter notes; the coffee is fresh and the vanilla is authentic and not overpowering. Well done.

A- Tallboy to tulip pour. The beer is pitch black in the body and the cap has a dark cocoa brown color to it. A thick and puffy head blasts up to about two inches tall with great retention. Lacing coats most of the glass.
S- For me it is very chocolately with dark chocolate and cocoa powder especially apparent. The coffee comes next and then the roasted barley. Caramel, toasted nuts and subtle vanilla.
T- Dark chocolate and toasted nuts up front with a medium roast coffee and some fudge after that. Really not all that sweet for a modern stout as the bitter roast barley cuts into the medium sweetness nicely balancing the brew overall. Caramel, vanilla, cocoa powder and toast. Picking up a slight touch of earthy hops in the back end.
MF- Medium to heavy body with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy almost to the point of chewiness and pretty soft and smooth. Ends very slightly warm with a nice roasty bitterness.
Chocolatey stout that is just bleeds balance between the malts, coffee, vanilla and sweetness.
