Its about time someone in Faneul hall started to carry a little more interesting beer selection than every other place in the neighborhood. The Hideout used to be the Black Horse tavern and it is basically the downstairs section of Durgin park.

I'm generally not a fan of sub-terranean establishments but I have to admit the vibe in here is pretty cool. There are dollar bills hanging all over the place with just random shit written on them that makes absolutely no sense. The bar is off to the right when you walk in and their tap selection is really only a little better than average. There was a Troegs hopback amber and Chimay so kudos for those 2 but other than that, mostly uninteresting run of the mill selection like various Sams and Harpoons. They do have their own beer and when I asked who made it for them, I was told Harpoon. I didn't try it. The bottle selection is much better with about 80 different bottles and thats what I ordered--Lagunitas IPA and then a Paulaner pilsener. Both were quite tasty. I also tried a half dozen oysters ($12) and they were quite good.

Service was fine--people were nice, quick and professional.

Beware of the tricky hours on this place as it is not open on Mon, Tues, or Weds. They told me that once the Spring got rolling as in St Patricks Day--that they would shift the hours to 7 days a week. One other thing that needs to be mentioned is that at least for the time being--they are having tastings every Thursday between 6:30-8 or thereabout with local brewery reps. I believe in addition to the free samples of beer, they also offer some free appetizers during these tastings as well.

A nice addition to a neighborhood that desperately needed some better beer options.
