On tap. Poured a murky, dark brown color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, bread and toffee. A hint of dried fruits with a rich, malty backbone.

22oz into my Duvel Tulip.
Look: a nice dark amber, ruby on the edges with a lively 1 finger nougaty colored head. I can hear it bubbling. Very lively beer.
Smell: apple cider vinegar, martinelli's sparkling cider. Dominated by the sour smell when initially cold. As the carbonation subsided, some chocolate, banana, spices and fruits came out, not a lot though. Still dominated by the apple cider vinegar smell.
Taste: The flavors are bounded by a sour note that lingers. In between the sour, I got hints of malt and toffee. No bitterness at all. Tasting blind, I would peg this for an apple sour. Some dark fruits push through, maybe some chocolate as it warmed. Might need to let it warm past what I like to drink beer at.
Feel: feel is lively, the carbonation look and sound continues in the mouth and dances. Not as much as a sparkling water/wine etc...
Overall: tasty beer, not what i was expecting or remember. Not sure why the sour notes are so dominate compared to what other reviewers have submitted. My wife tried it also and thought it was a sour. She liked it still and found it refreshing.

Dark brown with low tan head and champagne bubbles. The nose is sweet with rich earthy soil notes. Hints of volcanic red rock. Taste is sweetagain with molasses and honey balanced with cedar oak and damp black compost. Richly dehydrated raisins. Finish is mildly hoppy, very mild but just enough to mostly balance the sweetness. Mouth feel is on the thin side. The flavor profile is spot on, but just a tad thin on the texture. I'm minor critique though, great beer, I really like it.

a well made and layered belgian dubbel, better than par for the american brewers, and with a ton of cool dried fruit character in here. its deep amber brown in color with a tall rich tan head, looks very active and smells quite traditional. i get brown sugar and maple right away, with figs and raisins in there behind it and a yeast strain that has some mulling spice element to it as well as a bright estery lightness that helps make this beer seem a little more drinkable than it probably should be. the dried fruits abound in the flavor, nice malt depth for sure. i get dried red apple, plum, fig, date, and raisin, as well as mild cherry as it moves along, orange marmalade, toffee, bread pudding, and the spices from the belgian yeast to finish. it sure is sweet in the middle, but it doesnt end that way which is cool, and the carbonation really keeps it moving. this is a real well made beer and achieves most of the depth i look for in the imports and trappist takes on the style. our bottle tastes just a little oxidized, perhaps not as fresh as it could be, but this is one that should hold up pretty well. enjoyable beer from these guys, ahead of the american made belgian style curve for sure...

22 oz. bottle - poured into chalice:

Pours brown with a thin tan head that becomes wispy. Spotted lacing sticks.

The smell is of chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, bubblegum.

The taste follows the nose - chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, bubblegum. Sweet with dried dark fruit in the finish. Some alcohol shows but not hot or raw.

Pretty smooth despite noticeable alcohol and sweetness.

A nicely done interpretation of a sweet dubbel from a "local" brewery.

22oz bottle served in a Belgian tulip glass. Rich, yeasty aroma rises off of a brown ale with hues of red, and a moderate chestnut head. Flavor is both strong and mellow, resulting in a delicious and highly drinkable Belgian dubbel. This dubbel doesn't really challenge the palate too much, and that can be a good thing. Primary flavors are a rich caramely sweetness and a dominant clove note. Hop bitterness is extremely reserved, yet the beer finishes clean, not sweet or otherwise cloying. Especially impressive considering the gravities involved. However, carbonation is much too harsh for the style and, I think, that makes for this beer's biggest flaw.

Updated 8/31/16.

Look: Sound Brewery tasting glass, on draft. Caramel brown reddish body, thin white head.

Smell: Dark fruit, burnt sugar, and notes of coffee.

Taste: Same as above.

Feel: Medium body and carbonation. The alcohol isn't hidden very well.

8% ABV per the label.

Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, cocoa powder, chocolate covered banana, dark fruit, earth, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, banana, earth, spice, and slight cocoa powder flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth and spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some interesting cocoa and banana qualities all around.

Serving type: bottle.

Extremely well balanced, all notes are playing in key and with the perfect dynamics, if you'll excuse the cheesy music comparison. There's a delicate bubblegum/banana sweetness, nice gentle hops, smooth caramel and a good oily medium-body behind this extremely easy-to-drink beer. I could drink this all day.
