Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
With our year-round pilsner fully dialed in, we decided it was time to dial things up to 11 - or at least 8.5 - with this imperial version, brewed as a one-off specifically for Brewvival 2012. The plethora of malt drives a sweet character, subdued by that familiar crisp edge of German hops. It’s all the pilsner, with less of the water.

Holy City Brewing "Laser Pants"
on tap at Craftsmen Tap House, 21 DEC 2014
$4 for an 8 oz. serving

With a name like "Laser Pants" you've got to try it right? But then I find out that's actually the name of an Avett Brothers song... ? WHAT!? At least I love the Avett Brothers (but I don't have that song).

Notes: Hazy golden-amber beneath a creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Sweet malt and fruit in the nose. Flavor displays vanilla sugar cookie and banana - surprisingly not found in the nose... yeast, some grainy malt, apple/pear, gentle citrus and tropical fruit, grass and spice. Medium bodied and crisp. Rounded and balanced. Nicely polished. Worth the high price tag.

On-tap at Brewvival 2012

Pours a hazy dark gold with a dense white head. Nice aromas of bubblegum, banana, and honey with a touch of crisp malt. Taste is very similar to the nose, typical BSPA flavors of grainy malt, banana, and honey with a nice tropical hop bitterness. Smooth, with a medium body and good carbonation. Solid BSPA, a bit forgettable given the stature of the other beers drank that day.

A: Poured from a growler to a tulip glass. Had an amber color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A much sweeter aroma than I expected, with some fruit, malt, and yeast coming through.

T: Tasted of yeast, though not as strongly as with some beers of the style, a little malt, light fruit, and a bubble gum like flavor (a little unusual for the style). A pretty straightforward, tasty flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A solidly made, drinkable beer.
