Thanks to dogdoc for sending this one down! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Russian River pint glass.

A: Quite dark, almost black, and nearly opaque. Just under a finger's worth of tan head and very little visible carbonation.

S: Bourbon, oak, vanilla, deep roasted malts, mild coffee, and some dry tannins.

T: Barrel character, woody, oak tannins and vanilla. Strong booze/bourbon flavor but seems integrated into the flavors, and roasted malts with mild chocolate and coffee character. Has a fairly dry finish due to the roast bitterness and oak tannins, but an overall impression of sweet stickiness remains.

M: Full, well-rounded mouthfeel, and the alcohol is quite noticeable alcohol but the beer still doesn't seem overly hot. Carbonation sensation on the low side.

O: This was quite enjoyable. However, I got no real hop flavors or aromas out of this. There is a fair amount of bitterness that could be residual hops, but it tasted more like roasted malt bitterness to me. This is in stark contrast to barrel-aged hoppy beers currently available (like Founders Doom), but frankly I preferred the BA LDA significantly. This is especially true if you went in expecting a tasty barrel-aged porter rather than a black IPA.

I was excited to see they did a barrel aged version of the Lowcountry Dark Ale, so I had to run down to brewery and get a growler. This was aged in Seagrams Whiskey barrels for 6 months (I think). It's a very dark color, no light gets through. Head was thick and bubbly, it lasted for a little while, then went to a lacing. The smell was hoppy, malty, and boozy, something I really like. The taste was similar to the smell, but a little more taste of Whiskey in the finish, but nothing too overbearing. I was pleased with this brew, I'm looking forward to more barrel aged beers coming out.
