Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Notes / Commercial Description:
If you’ve ever seen a professional, male brewer, odds are you’ve seen a beard. There is some magical, unspoken connection between folks that make beer for a living and folks that dig on facial hair. We could dig a little deeper on that but we’re busy making beer…and mostly having beards.

Hooking up with the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society is therefore a natural fit for us. Chucktown Follicle Brown was named by said society, and was made to commemorate their hosting of the 4th Annual Southeastern Beard & Moustache Championships.

This hairy* beast is a 6.8% ABV brown ale with a heavy dose of Nugget & Amarillo hops. A smooth mouthfeel is followed by a bitter bite, both riding under a citrus aroma that is sure to smell great through your lip hair.

*NO hair was used, or abused, in the making of this beer.

From a can. Gift from a friend who was down South recently.

Appearance: Deep hazy brown. Thin head with very little lacing and a small white cap that didn't last long.

Smell: Sweet, hoppy and herbal. An almost soapy aroma, but not in a bad way.

Taste: A little thin and semi-sweet malty flavor up front, followed by a unique bitter hops flavor from the Amarillo and Nugget hops. This is a unique tasting beer, and I like the originality of the flavors.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and a bit thin. Semi-sweet with a little bitter bite on the finish. Not bad.

Overall: This is a good and original interpretation of a Brown Ale with the extra hops thrown in. The use of Amarillo and Nugget hops give it a unique and herbal flavor profile that I like. I would drink this again.

I tried this down in Hilton Head at the house my bestie rented. It poured a deep amber with slightly off-white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had bitter hop. The taste was bitter leaning and closer to sour dough. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall it was ok...not sure I'd go out of my way for it.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark brown color with a large head. Has a strong malt aroma and has an excellent hop/citrus flavor. The palate is a medium bodied American Brown Ale. Excellent beer with an eye-catching can. Highly recommended

On tap at Closed for Business. Served in a goblety pint glass.

Appearance - Deep brown. Excellent lacing from a small off-white head.

Smell - Nutty and chocolatey. Not a very intense aroma. Some earthy hops behind it.

Taste - Very chocolatey. Caramel and chocolate dark malts. The hops come up aggressively behind it. Overly bitter, but it does cut a bit of the sugars. Lingering sharp hop bite.

Mouthfeel - The finish is a little abrasive. Too bitter and sharp. Medium bodied.

Overall - Enjoyable, but a very different beer in the front and the back end.

A big shout out to the legendary woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Despite zero agitation, this can came gushing out, spilling out of the glass and onto my Reggie White throwback jersey. Has a dark chestnut color with several inches of head. Smell is malty, nutty, some hops as well. Taste is surprisingly hop forward, some citrus, malts are present but take a back seat. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, a bit different for the style, but an enjoyable beer.
