From a 375 ml bottle (bottled in September 2013) into a tulip.

A-The brew is a nice-looking, dark raspberry-reddish-purple. It is not quite opaque. The head is pink-hued tan in color. Head reaches maybe a finger before quickly dissipating to a thick collar of foam.

S-This brew is quite dry smelling with lots of oak and tart cherry. I get a little bit of vanilla from the barrel, but not much else that I would characterize as bourbon-like. It is quite tart with cherry and citrus acidity.

T-The taste, like the smell, is sour, dry, and oaky. The berry flavor is nice--tart cherry, raspberry, and cranberry flavors combine for a sour, but somewhat simple flavor profile. I get a bit of vinegar too. Aside from a hint of vanilla, I don't detect much bourbon (the oak is much more vinous than bourbon-like).

M-The feel is medium to full body for the style with soft-ish carbonation.

O-This is a nice, focused sour cherry ale. The dry, oaky flavor distinguishes this brew from other bourbon barrel beers, which tend to be much sweet and more caramel flavored. Here, I don't get any caramel and instead, I get sour cherries and a wine-like oaky dryness. To push this brew into the upper levels, I would like more complexity, but I would happily drink this again.

Appearance - Not much head to this beer and it poured a murky red brown color. Great lacing as you drank the beer.

Smell - lots and lots of funkiness going on along with a tartness I will attribute to the cherries.

Taste - Early tangy tartness before an after taste of sour. Subtle sour and not as strong as some other Crooked Stave beers.

Mouthfeel - Very smooth compared to some big sours out there

Overall - another great example from Crooked Stave. My second favorite from the Origins series.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep reddish brown. Small white head. Medium collar.

Smell - Nice. Lots of oak. Cherry. Brett. A little bit of malt.

Taste - Pleasant cherry sourness. Light cherry sweetness. Quite oaky. Deep caramel.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated. Nice sourness.

Overall - Very impressive. The cherry is the highlight.
