Thanks to Sheldon to bringing this to a March Madness a couple years back. Can't believe I haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet.

Comes at you in a dark red mahogany brown kind of vibe. Doesn't hold much of a head, off white, 1/5". I think the appearance is the weakest link. Aroma definitely hit those cherry pie notes. I mean, just wow, not since that Bruery pie beer Windowsill, have I seen a beer hit this pie in your face note. Well done. The wood barrel gives it help in achieving that crust like note and dryness.

Taste, hot damn, just the same, really gets that sour cherry pie vibe up in you. Very impressive, substantial amount of sour, but with the cherry and the pie vibe, it works wonders. Montmorency4life. Nice toasted not scorched wood barrels. Not overly acidic, nothing sweet going on literally, only proverbially. Fuck this is some legit wild ale. The brown malt like notes provide bouyancy beneath the surface, totally appropriate, light chewy brett feels.

I gotta say this is elite AWA stuff like Rick Martel.

Dark brown with a fingernail of beige around the rim and about the size of a half dollar in the middle of the glass. The aroma is of dark malt, sour cherries, and brown sugar. I'm tasting Brettanomyces, dark malt, and tart, sour cherries. The mouth offers moderate carbonation and is otherwise crisp with a heavy tartness throughout the palate.

2016 harvest from 750 ml

Super lactic and acidic which dominates the aroma and flavor

Very murky red-brown tap pour with almost no visible foam. The nose is a bit prickly with distinct cherry notes. The flavors are cherry and wood with and acetic, vinous base. This is rich with cherry and a bit more than moderately sour, really good.

Served on draft at Crooked Stave

Appearance: ruby-brown with some haze. The head fades very quickly to toads eyes bubbles at the edge of the glass.

Aroma: sharp lactic acidity with ample funk of leather, cork and oak. The sour cherries come through albeit light.

Flavor: very sharp up front which fades quickly and mellows in the end where the sour cherries come through. The fruit is well balanced. The funk reflects the nose, leather and light burnt rubber.

Mouthfeel: spot on: light-medium. Perfect for style.

Overall: very good, but not Crooked Stave's best. A bit too acidic, and the fruit is a bit restrained. Given the price tag of this beer ($28 / 750m) v. my impression, I would not buy this beer. Spend the money instead on the Nightmare on Brett variations.

A: Poured into a NB globe glass to a deep red topped by a dense finger and a half of light tan head that fades to a small mat with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sour cherries with hints of funk and oak
T: Taste is sour cherries with a faint spice note, some funk with a little band aid and a little oak. Swallow is more cherries with a little more oak and funk.
M: The beer has a medium amount of body with carbonation that is effervescent and slightly prickly. There's a little toasted malt note in here at times as well. This beer has a very nice dry finish as well.
O: Overall this one does exactly what it set out to do. Really nice flavors and complexity that is almost perfectly executed. This one has some time on it but it's just fantastic.

Pours a cloudy/hazy reddish brown color with off-white beige colored head. Tart cherries, funk, pie crust, and some oak on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with tart cherries and a creamy note.

A 375ml bottle, bottled in September 2015. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: A slightly cloudy dark reddish brown colour, with a just over one finger reddish beige head that dissipated slowly and left some sparse lacing.

Aroma: Tart and sweet cherry, oak and perhaps a light funk.

Taste: Sour, strong lemon juice with some cherry and oak creeping through here and there and hints of almond. Long acidic sour finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: While there was some sweetness in the aroma, it was pretty much mostly sour with an acidic bite in the taste. I think you really have to like sour things to enjoy this beer and luckily I do like sour things. Would have preferred it, if more cherries came through though, since cherry pie is in the name, but that is not a deal breaker.
