Pours an effervescent honey color with 2 fingers+ of cream colored head. Hazes up a bit, good lacing & average head retention
S: Tartness, horse blanket, drops off after a while
T: Follows the nose, a little lemon & choke cherry upfront. So much tartness & sourness as this warms, green apples, some grapefruit. Finishes tart with cherry & cider notes
MF: Acidic, lively carbonation light bodied
If you like'em puckery sour, this one is for you. I could've used a little ore nuance with this one

July 8th, 2015 - The Autumn Surette is a romp through an autumnal garden, but sniff to swallow. It's a pretty beer too, but the aroma quickly draws me in with its heavy and dry cinnamon note, paired against a slightly meatier pumpkin pie. What is dry cinnamon? Think of those cinnamon branch brooms that tend to appear in November and Christmas. The flavor is also botanical but more curiously. Lots of licorice and fennel here, with fennel bulb and a lighter body. It's a signature brew for Fall, with a nice acidic note and a scratching aftertaste, and a distinctive spiciness that bellows from the back of the throat.

Copper colored with a fingernail of dishwater white on top. The aroma is of woodsy oak, peaches, cinnamon, and overripe apples. I'm tasting cinnamon, apples, and peaches. The mouth is very dry and moderately carbonated and spiced.

Poured into a tall tulip, the appearance was a hazy burnt orange almost brown color with a two finger white foamy head that quickly dissipates. Mild filmy lacing. The aroma started off with some dank grass, vinous notes, sour fruit, oak, and citrus. The flavor leaned towards the sour to vinous fresh notes with some lingering bready notes. Sly wheaty/graininess. Vinous aftertaste. Dry sticky vinous finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. Overall, vinous sour saison, good for what it is, and I could have again.

Pours hazy, gold in color, with 1/4 inch head. Taste is cinnamon, clove, hay, light pepper and chocolate at end. Complex, medium bodied, medium carbonation, and sweet. Tasty, unique saison. I prefer others from Crooked Stave, but well worth a try.

BOTTLE: Brown glass. Small (375ml) format. Generally appealing label art & design. Autumn 2014 vintage. Branded black & red pry-off crown cap.
6.20% ABV. Reviewed live as an oak-aged saison per the label. Troublingly, the specific amount of time spent in barrels is unmentioned.
Expectations are high given the brewery. Served cold into a tulip and allowed to come to temperature over the course of consumption.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: About 1 inch in width. Weak, thin, and pathetic, receding fully within
