Poured a somewhat cloudy, straw yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled phenolic, yeasty and citrusy. Nice funky flavor with sharp citrus tanginess and toasted caramel sweetness.

375ml bottle served cold in a wine glass.

Appearance: very Pale gold with a rocky head. Slight chill haze and some sediment

Nose: tropical fruit, some funk, lemony, fruity and some Malt

Taste: very fruity, very light funk, tropical, mildly tart, highly carbonated, apple, oranges, lemon and other fru its

Overall: I was very impressed with this beer from CS. I expected something more tart or sour but was pleasantly surprised that it is only mildly tart. Delicious.

A- Intensely cloudy pale golden pour from the 375ml to two Zwanze Day glasses at six ounces each. A crown rises to just about one finger with a frothy white look. Head dies completely and lacing is a few spots and a sheet.

S- Funk comes out here more so than the flavor for me with some musty fruits and Brett tropical fruits. Citrus is of course the key player though with a fresh split clementine peel really coming to mind. Reminds me of the Satsumas I picked up a couple weeks back.

T- Citrus really shines and is somewhat of a dominating force in the flavor. Mandarin, clementine, lemon, orange, grapefruit juice and zests just explode onto the taste buds; just about as close as it comes in beer to eating a real piece of citrus fruit. Lactic acid sours compliment it all bringing on the semi-bitter lemon and bug feel. Brett tropical fruit seems to come and go with a musty vinous funk.

MF- Light end body close to reaching full dryness but a consistency of slight cream and foaminess holds it all together. Carbonation falls in at right around a medium level, perhaps a bit lower. Finishes mildly sour with citrus saturating the taste buds.

Mandarin juice and zest ultimately invade the palate to bring you to some sort of citrus heaven. One of the best citrus forward beers I have ever had. Brett and lactic really make it special with an underlying funk and sourness.

Thanks to Cam for sharing this wonderful 375ml.

A - Split between two 6 oz. glasses. Color is a beautiful hazy pale orange. A small white head retains fine.

S - Promising scent, nice mix of dirty brett, tart orange and grapefruit. Citrus flavors are really standout.

T - Opens up big time, seriously excellent all around citrus flavors here. Huge blast of mandarin orange, grapefruit, peach, kiwi. Some bready cereal tones. Light bretty funk helps emphasize the citrus rather than try to take over. Good tartness, some oaky white wine flavors there as well.

M - Great, foamy and light but not watery, tartness and funk kept in check, nice balance of flavors, impressive for the ABV.

O - Wow, definitely some of the best tart citrus/orangey flavors I've had in a beer. This reminded me of Fou Foune a bit. The brett works here very nicely.

i dig this one, although i think i liked the other summer, and definitely the blood orange fall editions more. the mandarins seem under dosed compared to the fruit in some of the others, but they do give just a hint of a candied orange sweetness to the finish of this that is not present in the other editions, lingers a bit longer there too. very pleasant. the beer has more of a cereal dry cheerio grain base than i recall the others having too, maybe because it comes across less fruity, but it seems way more balanced by the grain here. the nose still makes my mouth water like any of them, with the sharp citrus and the funky brett character, real mature for what it is. so appealing! there is a real tang in the middle of this, more sour than funky in the finish, some oak, with the sweetness of the mandarins coming back around. its amazing beer, the whole series has been, cool to see how different fruits all in the same family can make such radically different beers. these age really differently from one another as well...

edit: we had a couple of bottles of 2014 last night, about four years old now. one was aged in syracuse, one in denver, nothing else different, but the beers were entirely different. the one from syracuse for whatever reason was super fresh, still really citrusy, super carbonated, and one of the best of the aged bottles of bretta we had in our lineup, but the one from denver was one of the worst, darker in color, near flat, some oxidation in nose and taste, and really not a lot of fruit left in it, we could not believe how divergent they were! not sure what would account for that, perhaps some bottling inconsistency, maybe the elevation? i dont know if anything else was different, same batch number and vintage though. one was amazing, one was not. so interesting...
