Bottled Oct 2015
L - Pours light orange, very cloudy with a pillowy-white head that really clings to the glass
S - Aroma of citrus/passion fruit and that great Brett funk! A bit more Brett on the nose than citrus (bottle is a year and 7 months old)
T - The more I drink the more the citrus pops. Very Brett forward on the taste with a nice dry, citrus/pineapple finish but is yet Earthy
MF - Medium body, dry, lots of carbonation
OA - Really enjoy this beer! Wish I could try it fresher as I'm sure the Galaxy would really pop

Brilliant gold in color with moderate haziness. A fingernail of bright white covers most of the top. Heavy lacing. Notes of mango, passion fruit, and pineapple are prominent in the nose. The taste is as advertised in the nose with pineapple, mango, and passion fruit. The Brett notes are very subdued with all of that tropical hop aroma and flavor. The mouth is a bit chewy and moderately syrupy.

Poured a clear golden color, nice big fluffy white head. Good retention and lacing. Smells of citrus and that funky bretty smell dominate the aroma. On first taste, the Brett really hits you, but then I got a nice tart lemony citrus favors. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with decent carbonation and a fairly clean finish. Just another fine brew from Crooked Stave, just what I've come to expect.

A: Hazy Amber with a decent white head. Thick strings of lace cling to the glass.
S: Mango, pineapple, and tangerines are dominant with a fair dustyness.
T: A touch of cereal grains up front, then switches to pineapple and mango, before the swallow which follows up with a finely blended bitter linger and dusty funk combination.
M: Medium light bodied with good carbonation. Not excessive, but offers good spread of notes across the palate.
O: a solid beer, though the hops and funk factor don't seem to blend quite as well as with Citra.

375 mL bottle. Very hazy pale orange. Medium white head. Aroma is lots of brett. Tropical hops and some doughy malts. Doughy malts come out first in the taste, but immediately overwhelmed by brett earthiness and bitterness. Hops come through in the back, more as grapefruit than tropical fruit or any sweetness. Very bitter finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. I expected something more tropical, but this is really bretty and bitter. I like a hopped sour, but this isn't really sour and the hoppiness is overwhelmed by the brett.

Bottle shared by Curran last night.

This one pours much like other Hop Savants, but not quite as bright as Citra. Hazy golden orange, with a big head, and lots of soapy lacing.

This one smells like orange, peach, apricot, a little bit of pine, and lots of Bretty funk.

This is the 2nd best of the 3 single-hopped Savants. The Galaxy hops are super fruity, tons of stone fruit, which melds well with the dusty funk and citrus of this particular strain of Brett. I also love Galaxy hops, and they're possibly my favorite single hop, so that definitely affects my opinion here as well. I wish there was a little bit more bite to this, like the Amarillo version, but there's definitely some pine and grassiness at the end that's pretty nice.

This is medium bodied, with a juicy and slightly oily mouthfeel. The carbonation level here seems lower than other two, possibly.

Another great funky IPA, this series is absolutely killer.

375mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 9.99. Bottled 10/2015. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours pale opaque orange with a two finger cap of off white head. The dense foam slowly shrinks down, leaving a thin, persistent layer and a fluffy ring. Large swaths of lacing cling to the glass.

Smells are a pleasant mixture of fruity hops and earthy Brett funk. Honeydew, funky Brett, vague citrus, peach and earthy hay. Enjoyable.

The Brett in considerably more forward in the flavor. Funky, earthy horse blanket, hay, grapefruit peel, melon rind, bread crust, pepper and grass. Lightly bitter, a good deal of funk and a nice, complementary burst of hops. It's difficult for me to restrain myself from downing this quickly.

Slightly oily, medium body with lively carbonation. Mildly bitter aftertaste of barny funk and fruit skins.

Crooked Stave delivers another excellent Brett fermented IPA. They have their Hop Savant series dialed in and ready to showcase the different hop varietals they choose. These are always a pleasure to drink but remain too expensive for me to buy more than a single bottle of each release to try.

Crooked Stave really loves its brettanomyces!

Wasn't aware this brew had been retired! If I knew before researching, I would have grabbed several more!

Pour:
Had a small mishap, I suppose I set the bottle down wrong (of course that would happen to a $7 12 oz bottle). Bottle overflowed and I desperately began to pour into a flute glass (which, probably didn't help the situation at all). Saved most of the beer, just lost a little. Cloudy burnt yellow. 2-1/2 finger head (see mishap) of sandy color. Thick lacing that doesn't seem to go away. Poured hardly chilled for taste clarity.

Nose:
Well, the Bretts stand out! Notes of flowers, honeysuckle, straw, gummy bears (honestly!)

Taste:
Yeast, flowers, lemon, orange peel

Mouthfeel:
Perfect carbonation, great balance of spikey and sudsy. Mildly dry finish

Overall:
Great beer from Crooked Stave. Shelled out a touch for it and it paid off, even given my small mishap with it! The hops are not overwhelming. Complex flavor with several layers and a clean finish
