Served On-Tap @ CS
A — Pours a deep dark brown hue, almost black, with an espresso brown colored head sitting atop the beer.
S — Smell is incredible, such waves of sour and fruit and malt. Major notes of tart cherries, cherry juice, bitter roast espresso, bitter dark chocolate, over roasted malts, charred oak, Whiskey, oak, vanilla, semi-sweet pie crust.
T — Carries on from the nose, with notes of tart cherries, pie cherries, roasted and charred malts, bitter espresso, barrel aged dark roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, oak, burnt toast, cherry wine. Undertones of Bourbon and loads of barrel character with hints of caramel, custard, creme brulee, just incredible waves of flavor balanced with tart jammy fruit notes.
M — Medium bodied, long lasting finish, some puckering bubbly carbonation, almost Champagne like.
O — Incredible overall, I love the nuances found in "regular" NMoB, but the amplification and elevation of Cherries used here is just phenomenal, very very well done.

i always thought this beer had a cherry undertone to it, dried and tangy, and it was always really cool as an accent flavor to the pucker and to the dark malts, sort of a unifying element in a very unique and complex beer. the addition of actual cherries though kind of throws off that subtle balance with a fruit punch right to the palate. the cherry here is robust, prominent in nose and taste, and while its awesome, i think i prefer other nightmare versions, its almost too much, and trumps the subtleties in nose and taste that make this one of a kind. the cherry has a slight medicinal thing going on in the nose, but in general is very authentic, it adds a cool fruitiness to the beer, gives it quite a bit more sweetness to tame the pucker, and is a neat feature in general. i just think some of the yeast flavor is lost to it, and it definitely makes it quite a bit more sugary in the finish, seems to expose the alcohol a little more too. let this not sound like a harsh critique though, this is elite level beer with a cool new modification and is absolutely worth seeking out. i wonder if they have plans to bottle this one?

Black in color with no light penetration. There’s a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering half of the top. The aroma is of tart cherries, bourbon, brettanomyces, and vanilla. I’m tasting tart, cherries, bourbon, vanilla, and brettanomyces. The mouth is smooth due to the whiskey and the tartness of the cherries and the brettanomyces really prickles the tastebuds.

750ml bottle bought at Liquor Shed. Harvest 2016.
Pours black, small head of tannish foam. Tilting my glass, hey there's some sticky lacing.
Smells of sour cherries, Brett and oak in that order.
Taste smacks of sour cherries, oh my, barrel adds a bit of oak wood flavours. The Brett is more subdued but I can definitely say it's there. Overall, the sour sensation is very pleasing.
Fairly light bodied with adequate carbonation.
I love sour cherries but I love sour raspberries more. And Crooked Stave has accommodated me with that option...

I have thought reg Nightmare on Brett left a dry, chalky, finish that was lacking. This has even more complex with a nice sweet, cherry finish that fills the void of the reg version.
