Offering a sense of comfort and approachable demeanor, the Petite Sour collection of sour ale by Crooked Stave gets out of the fruit friendly additions and into an herbal, floral, winey taste for complexity, variety and charm.

Bright, tangy and earthy, the nose is rife with wine. Caught between red and white varieties, this rosé version shares the robustness of red but the daintiness of white vinous fruit and spice as the nose becomes alive with cider, pepper, tainted cork and damp hay. Shy on sweetness, its grape upstart continues what it's bright blush and rosé hues promise.

As the ale unfolds, its taste is less malt reliant and more confident with sourness. Cider, dry rosé, lime, lemon and gooseberry carry a piquant sour taste across a bed of dry wheat and hay, an herbal hop complement and a yeast spice of weathered oak, burlap and horse blanket in retro olfactory fashion.

Simple, pure and dry, the ale's cider and wine influences keep the session crisp, clean and highly thirst quenching. Delicate with both a floral and rustic bouquet, the finish is mildly carbonated for zip of sparkling wine and a highlight of the beer's peppery taste that lingers in a short wheaten afterglow.

I love sours but this one borders on a big sour for even me. I grew up liking crab apples and that tart taste. This was, for my tastes, to tart.

Batch 2018-26 - poured from a 12oz can into a shaped pint glass.

Lightly hazy electric crimson liquid with a short pale pink cap receding to a delicate collar and surface slick. Sandy lacing; poor retention.

Bright, berry-forward, slightly funky aroma.

Tart palate entry with some berry-infused sweetness around the corners of the mouth - pure fruity but dry finish with a touch of oak, white tea, and river stone.

Light-bodied, crisp, gently tannic.

A well crafted, well balanced sour that should appeal equally to novice/advanced sour drinkers. An excellent Summer libation.

375ml capped bottle into a Surly teku. Shared by schen9303.

Super funky. Hints of hay, vinegar, oak, cobwebs and horse blanket. Almost lambic-like. Beer opens tart. Notes of grape, oak, hay and cobwebs. Vinous with a creamy tartness... though a little watery. Vinegar and more grape juice at the finish. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly and coarse in the mouth and goes down soft and moderately dry.

Decent but watery.

7/1...pours reddish amber, almost a pinkish brown. Oaky nose, the wood is apparent. Fruity. Sour white wine grape taste. Oaky wine sour. Really quite tasty.

Pours watermelon red with a white foam head. Smell has sour notes, yeast, and fruit. Taste starts with big fruit flavor up front, but not sweet or overwhelming, both the raspberry and blueberry come through as dominant flavor. This is followed by the sour and yeast notes, again very flavorful. The finish is a nice blend of both fruit and yeast with a lingering oakiness. The mouthfeel is light, bubbly and refreshing. This is a nice summer sipping beer. Overall a flavor packed sour beer that is easy to enjoy.

For $4.50 a bottle, this thing was a steal. Soft and delicate like Juliette before she met Romeo, this one is ethereal. Light picker, with a lil bit of, what I am guessing, is a cherry bite, Raul could sip this simple beauty all day long.
