Hot, hot pink. Dense haze. No head.

Fresh, ripe raspberry nose. Mint leaves. Lemon. Lightly funky and herbal.

Lovely, puckering acid. Highly lactic. Lactose sugars balance very well. Subtle citrus notes. Fresh raspberry jam. Earthy and lightly funky.

Light and creamy. Lots of tiny bubbles bring all of the flavors to the palate. Best served cold as earthy tones intensify at the warmer temps.

Possibly the best raspberry sour I've ever tasted.

Word of advice. Chill it if it wasn’t chilled when you bought it. Pours dark red with a firm pink head of foam. Oh my, tart raspberries with Brett and oak. I reckoned right there that this would be something special. The taste incorporates everything the smell insinuated. Marvelous. Body and carbonation are a match made in heaven. I do believe that this is at least the equal of New Glarus Raspberry Tart. I see more in my future.

While the brewers at Crooked Stave host a brewing cooperation with Omnipollo, they bring their special microflora to the table while the raspberry ale recipe comes from Stockholm. One thing's for sure: great minds sour alike!

Bright mauve and with strong pink overtones, the blush looking ale carries a zesty froth with loose structure. As the acidity breaks up the foam, the scent arises with the tang of raspberry and a backdrop of citrus, cider, wine and the light pungency of sea breezes Light candy lays upon the tongue with the strong suggestions of raspberry lifesavers, along with a wafer-like breadiness and a smooth vanilla creaminess.

As the low lying sweetness begins to dissolve on the middle palate, the sourness of raspberry rumbles onward and links up beautifully with the natural sourness of lime, lemon, red grape, currant, gooseberry, crabapple and kiwi. As a light mustiness builds, a peppery vinous taste trends wine-like with rustic nuance of leather and burlap.

Bright acidity keeps the session light, sparkling and highly refreshing, but the woven smoothness of milk sugars keep the textures moderate with rolling vanilla and cream. Light earth chases a mild briny finish into an aftertaste of raspberry juice and sourdough.

Ruby red in color with a wisp of off white barely present. The aroma is of tart raspberries with a light sharpness of Brettanomyces that quickly fades, likely due to the oak aging. I'm tasting a well paired blend of tart raspberries and brettanomyces. The mouth is amazingly smooth for such a tart beer, likely due to the lactose and oak.

A: The beer is hazy reddish purple in color. It poured with a short pink head that rapidly dissipated, leaving wispy lacing on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of raspberry purée are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is packed with lots of flavors of raspberry purée. There is only a light amount of sourness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This wild ale didn't seem to be as sour compared to other beers in the style. I really liked the aromas and flavors of raspberries.

A: Poured into a tulip to a reddish violet topped by a dense two ginger pinkish white head which fades quickily to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of juicy fresh raspberries with some pleasant underlying sourness
T: Tastes of juicy fresh raspberries, some really nice sourness and just the slightest amount of funk. The raspberries are here throughout the drink while the other flavors provide some nice backing notes. On the swallow there's a hint of sweetness with more juicy raspberries, sourness and some lingering funk
M: This beer has a moderate amount of body with a slightly creamy feel from the lactose. Carbonation is effervescent and just slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish from the acidity.
O: Overall this beer is just awesome. Huge and delicious raspberry flavors with just a beautiful color on the beer. The fresh fruit is super intense but some of the supporting notes are also able to provide some complexity to the drink. Definitely one to try if you can find it.

a neat collaboration with omnipollo here, a fusion of two distinct series of beers, although it may be in name only, im not sure this is a blend, or what the story is really, but its flowing at the taproom and it tastes pretty good, although far less compelling than many of the other raspberry sour beers crooked stave does. the lactose isnt that intense in this, its neither creamy textured or sweet, perhaps a little too acidic from both the fruit and the souring cultures to be like the omnipollo beers in this series are on their own, smooth and silky, this is sharp and thin, but i still really like it. the fruit flavor is enhanced by the lactose, and the berries contribute a desserty jammy flavor without being overly sweet, pretty authentic, but somewhat less intense than say their petite sour or lbrett raspberry beers. nice carbonation, light body, slight vinegar acidity in the finish, a squeeze of lemon, and a jammy raspberry complexion, tasty and good, but not as different or distinct as i was hoping for when i saw it on their beer menu...

edit: this has aged amazingly well, an entirely different beer and loads better than when it was fresh, a standout in our thanksgiving raspberry lineup yesterday. its clear and radiant looking for one, mouthwatering fresh fruit and crooked stave wild funk in the nose and taste, and so clean and bright, full of natural raspberry and minerals delicious all over again on each sip. the color is so bright it almost looks artificial, and the lactose seems less than it used to. this is why you cellar beer, my patience has been rewarded! raising some scores to reflect how well this is drinking now, a year and a half later...
