Pours hazed as all hell straw color with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Much citrus, breadyness

T: Grapefruit, tangerine, a little bready dryness up front. Bready dryness, plenty of pomelo & a little apricot & mango as this warms. Finishes dry, with a little bit of orange, just a kiss of mango & passion fruit

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance, a touch of grittyness

So easy to drink, willl revisit this given the chance this one was 3 months old. still held up great!

Poured into a snifter

Aroma: holy shit this smells great! Spicy hops with fresh cut hay/grass, hop spiciness, pine resin and grapefruit zest. Dry smelling (if than can be conveyed through smell). This has to be one of the best aromas of any beer that I’ve rated to date (150+).

Appearance: dry hay-colored and completely hazy, almost grapefruit juice colored or better put, grapefruit juice mixed with a little bit of milk.

Flavor: NEVER have I tried a beer that so well captures fresh hop taste. This is superb. Fresh-off-the-bine hop flavor and spiciness.

Mouthfeel: light-medium; spot on for style.

Overall: without a doubt, this is the best standard IPA that I have ever tried. This is only 6.0% abv, which I’m happy about, because I’m going to drink several of these. I haven’t been this impressed with a beer since Lagunitas the Waldos. I love Melvin beers, but this is superior. Wonderful! I’m going back to the liquor store tomorrow to buy more. Crooked Stave makes some excellent beer. It is ironic that their best (IMO) is a standard IPA – outside of their wheelhouse.

EDIT: I have tried this beer several times since the above review. The beer has never repeated its initial quality, and my most recent can was downright not good. That being said, the original beer well deserved the high rating.

L-Cloudy grapefruit juice looking with a creamy white head

S-Terrific fruity aroma. Blueberries, pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit, mandarin oranges. Veritable fruit cocktail.

T-Fruity here as well with the blueberry, pineapple and sweet pink grapefruit notes leading the way.

F-Medium bodied. Creamy texture. All juicy hop flavor. Not much for a bitterness. So easy drinking it's scary.

O-Not sure if this is supposed to be a hazy, NE style IPA but that is what it is and an excellent one at that.

Crooked Stave IPA has a thick, creamy, ivory head, an opaque, gray-yellow appearance, with heavy lacing. The aroma is of fruits, pale malts, and possibly lupulin powder. The flavor is similar, with relatively low bitterness and quite a bit of sweetness. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Crooked Stave IPA finishes midway sweet/dry.

Picked up a single from the TW Camelback on 6-14-18 for $2.29. Canned on 4-23-18; cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured a cloudy golden orange with a nice white head that has some nice hang time.

Nose is nice, citrus forward with some hints of the tropics.

Taste follows the nose with orange and grapefruit with some mango. Catching a floral note which is odd before the light rind finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly refreshing.

Overall a nice NEIPA hat i would have again if offered but nothing spectacular.

12 oz can. Pours hazy milky yellow with a medium fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass a little.

The aroma is stinky garlic hops with some fruit and pine and sharp alcohol.

The flavor is some sweet malt with a little fruit and bitter garlic hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied but watery.

Overall, this was a disappointment. Their Sourless IPA was much better. Looks, but doesn't taste, like they are trying to jump on the NE IPA bandwagon.

Can a beer be both avant garde and traditional at the same time? This is the question that the Crooked Stave team attempts to answer with their new IPA. Using the juicier, hazier and smoother character of the trendy New England styled IPA, high impressions of hop fruitiness slather a crisp and bitter taste of West Coast varieties.

Simply named, "IPA" the beer's hazy upstart has a near custard aesthetic but crowned with a creamy white blanket of foam. High aromas of tropical fruits mingle with citrus, herb and melon fill the nose before an initial sip of honey, pastry and dough.

The hops simply blossom on the middle palate as its equally high hop flavors splash the tongue with pineapple and passionfruit. Not to be left behind, the citrus complement from hops bring a taste of white grapefruit, radiant orange peel and a nearly lime-like character. Curiously, a late palate of blackcurrant, verbena, green tea and pine resins have a moderately resinous and bitter tone to command the aftertaste decidedly.

Medium bodied, the beer is a tale of two halves: starting creamy, juicy and smooth but trending dry, bitter and crisp for a high rate of both drinkability and succulence. Honeydew and muddled herb come with a complex but effortless finish as the aftertaste is long and lean with the hop bitterness of fruit peels and pine.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a good-sized, white head of bubbly foam. It smelled very fruity, citrusy and floral. Sweet citrus, grapefruit and toasted caramel taste.

Can. Hazy but not murky gross pale yellow with nice dense head and lace. Grapefruit grassy pineapple lemon aroma. Medium light tropical fruit sweetness with medium grapefruit bitterness in very dry finish. This is what NE IPAs should taste like even though it's not from NE. TOTALLY FUCKIN EXCELLENT.

The heavily hazed golden colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 2 1/2” foamy ivory head that that recedes slowly to leave a web of patches, streaks and legs of lacing on the sides of the glass. While foam eventually becomes a thin irregular island of foam combined with a ring around the glass there is lots of foam clinging to the sides of the glass. Sipping creates scattered small patches of foam on the side of the glass for most of the beer.

The aromas include a complex mixture of grapefruit, other citrus and zest, some tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, papaya) and some resin that seems almost floral in character. Way in the background there’s also some bready malt.

The flavors are similar to what is expected from the nose but are even more complex with lots of different citrus that seems to include grapefruit, citrus zest, some orange and tangerine. There are also some tropical fruits in here (mango, pineapple, papaya, etc.). The bready malt contributes some sweetness that does not cloy and plays well with a soft almost floral bitterness in the background. No single flavor dominates and all are nicely intertwingled.

The mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied and lightly prickly with the moderate gentle carbonation. The finish begins as the soft smooth fruit flavors begin to fade away to leave behind a dry and slightly zesty, softly bitter resinous ending that slowly recedes and that invites another sip,

Easy drinkable, enjoyable and worth revisiting. Definitely seems a high quality example of the NEIPA. Lots of balance between the citric and tropical with some resinous notes. While I don’t think I’d more than one a night, I’d be happy to have this one again.

Pours a turbid light orange, two fingers of fluffy white foam settle to a half inch, thick lace trailing partway down the glass. Smell: orange creamsicle, lemon candy, lime zest, grass. Taste: dilute tangerine juice, pineapple juice, lime and grapefruit segments, with a mildly biscuity and grassy finish. Medium bodied, creamy and a bit sugary. Pretty tasty, comes off much like a "lite" version of their Trellis Buster.
