man ive probably had 15 or more crooked stave beers with raspberries or cherries, but pear? pretty sure this is the first i have seen of that, and outside a couple of curious beers from the likes of wicked weed and whatnot, i havent seen much pear at all in wild beer, so this is a pretty exciting release, even if the price is a bit absurd (which is how all this crooked stave stuff is trending lately). the pear is really cool in the beer, which overall seems a little less wild to me than it has in the past, less fully funky and weird, more of a clean acidity and a light bretty character, bacterial more though, bright and good, but less interesting maybe, which i think is good here, it leaves a lot of space for the pear to do its thing, which is natural as can be here, never perfume-esque or forced like it often is, sweet fleshy and then tart skinny, the real deal, the whole fruit! i love how late the whole thing sets in too, it almost starts getting flavorful on the swallow, and then gets really tart, like even after i think its over the tartness keeps expanding, lots of that must be from the pear, as i dont recall it from other colorado reserva series beers. white wine and oak notes here, subtle peach maybe too, not quite ripe, but the pear really drives this which i think is cool, and carbonation is nice and high which i like in these wild styles. a little too sour to be drinkable, but a cool beer overall, and a fine use of the pear to be sure!
