Known as "Pilsner" in the USA.

Golden-yellow and bright, with 32 bitter units and quite hoppy compared to most of the other Pilsners our Weihenstephaner Pilsner comes up with a distinctive aroma of hops with a pleasant bitterness. This combination provides a balanced mix and guarantees great enjoyment. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

My friends and I had a Pilsner taste party and this won. Not perfect but damn close. Not as malty as say Warsteiner but more satisfying than your Bitburger/Warsteiner/Konig. Although I will say Konig in a bottle is close. Must try !

An excellent German lager, light & crisp. Light on the malt flavor, and a bit heavier on the hops, when compared to the original. This one is the hardest to find of their 3 most common exports. Definitely try all of Weihenstephaner's imports to find that one you like best, especially if your local store offers singles.

I had this on draft 9/7/23 @ Laschet's Inn.

See-through golden appearance.

Big off-white head; frothy lacing remained.

White bread, mild pine & faint honey notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

White bread & pine flavors up front; mild honey & faint lemon notes on the finish.

A bit less biting than most Pilsners, but that's fine with me. Solid!

Pours light and clear gold with a creaminess that belies it's appearance. Full of texture for a pilsner. And a nice, sweet bite. This brewery can honestly do no wrong, in my opinion.

11.2 oz bottle into a Pils glass.
L: Pours light pale straw mostly clear yellow with a thin white head that goes to a thick skin, good steady carbo bubbles, very light skeletal lacing.
S: Bready, herbal hops, grains, pastry dough.
T: Hop smack then sweet malts followed again by spicy hops and crackery bread notes, a hint of citrus & zest, gently pale, white grape, lightly bitter on sides of tongue, very light after taste.
F: Crisp, bright, light-bodied with a very fast finish that's a bit dry.
O: This is in the top 10 German Pilsners IMHO. It must be divine on tap. Weihenstephaner helped start it all. I feel it is worthy of world class status.

This German pilsner is an excellent treat! Perhaps a bit malty and sour at first, you get acquired to what this beer aims for in flavor and feeling after the first three sips. I thought I wasted my money until that magical third sip, which titillated my tastebuds like a fresh new dance style at the nightclub. The aroma is pleasant and wheaty. This is a class A pilsner!

Enjoying a half liter in their Braustuberl/Biergarten on a beautiful late May day. A damn good Pils. A bit yeastier and richer than most. More full bodied and flavorful than the most drinkable versions. This is unique for the style. Seriously delicious and a great first choice. On to the next…

500 ml pour vom Fass
Glass: 0.5 L Pilsner glass

Look:
Clear pale straw yellow with a 2+ finger off white foamy and fluffy head. The head stays around for quite some time, eventually starting to recede as one drinks the beer. Lacing is pretty good.

Smell:
Light bready malts with a touch of lemon. Noticeable but not intense herbal hops. Very mild notes of grass and a faint spiciness.

Taste:
Follows the nose with the light doughy, bready malts leading things off. The herbal and somewhat spicy hops join in just before mid-sip. The sip dries out a fair amount and finishes moderately dry, with all of the aforementioned flavors present but fading slowly away. Very well balanced.

Feel:
Soft, crisp, and moderately dry. The body is light-medium.

Overall:
A very tasty and incredibly quaffable German pilsner. A great representation of the style. Not too spicy, not too herbal, not too dry, but spicy, herbal, and dry enough.

On my search of the "Perfect German Pilsner", I figured I would try the one from the oldest brewery in the world now that we got some more in stock.

L: Pours a bright golden with 2 fingers of fluffy, white head. Slowly dissipates into a thick white cap and leaves behind clusters of beautiful lacing.

S: Sweet bread malt and floral, slightly spicy noble hops on the nose. Smells great!

T: Flavors follow the nose, yet the malts have a nice biscuit and cracker flavor to them. Finishes with that nice hops bite. Pretty well balanced while standing out.

F: Extremely crisp and refreshing while finishing slightly dry. This is one of the best feeling Pilsners out there!

O: This is an excellent Pilsner! Easily my second favorite as of the writing of this review. The only Pilsner at this point that beats it would be the Tannenzäpfle. For the difference in price, this Pilsner is very well worth it!
