Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Pours cloudy yellow with thick foam and mild lacing. Smells of banana, citrus, and floral notes. Taste is exceptional, full on banana, clove, zing of citrus, wheat notes. This is an great beer, tons of distinctive flavors and a great summer beer. Big fan of this one, tons of flavors and complex tastes. Medium feel.

Bottle coded 9516. Hefeweizen glass.

A: pours a turbid orange gold with swirls of sediment haze. Too thick to see any carbonation. Three fingers of pillowy white head. This is lighter in color than other examples of the style I've had. Head retention was fair, lacing so-so.

S: clove, citrus, ripe plantains, grain. Smells like a perfect hefeweizen. My only comparisons here are Aventinus and Moonglow, and although it has been a while, both of those seemed more complex on the nose.

T: thick, wheaty, sweet, orangey arrival. Tastes like what I imagine corn flakes would taste like with orange juice poured on them. I don't think I would like that, but I love this. Go figure. Bready and slightly phenolic. Zero hints of alcohol whatsoever.

M: thick, with probably high carbonation, but the thick body makes it seem very low.

O: As compared to Aventinus, that is a "truer" weizenbock; this is more of a bock strength hefeweizen. That said, there is nothing wrong with that! In fact, there is a lot to like about it! Fruity, mouth-filling, and strong. It is a bit simple, but is really a simple pleasure. This is creeping into favorite beer territory.

Cloudy gold beer with a white head that leaves a few random globs of lacing. A nice yeasty aroma with apricot, bananas and cloves. The nice sweet taste is the same as the nose with banana and apricot followed by the cloves. Nice and tasty beer.

Cloudy, yellow with a huge, four finger high, white head that sinks down to a fluffy, creamy two finger head and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass!

Nose: Banana, coriander, citrus, orange, apricot, peach and green apple.
Taste: Lemon, orange, biscuit, banana, honey, caramel and sugar.
Mouth: Full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth and almost creamy. Sweet and slight sour ending.

Sweet, refreshing, full body, smooth... SO GREAT!
