Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Hazy golden colour, big head with long retention, good irregular lace.
Aroma has a lot of cloves, bananas, malts, citrics.
Full body, oily palate, good carbonation. Sweet and spicy finish.
Taste has again a lot of cloves, banana, pineapple, peaches.
Good boozy beer.

Appearence: Cloud yellow-orange, white head with good retention and formation.

Smell: Yellow fruits, banana, clove and spicy. Bread bark and malty too.

Flavor: Medium sweetness, banana, clove and low acidity, low bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and high carbonation, banana and clove and spicy persists in the after taste and a low alcoholic heat can be felt.

Overall: Refreshing but with medium body, spicy and sweet, alcoholic and high carbonated, this beer bring a very balanced and even complex german flavour to your table!

Amazing taste. I was in Austria several years ago and I had a beer like this, I have been craving this taste ever since. Too bad I was not beet literate then (no internet) so no way of knowing what I had had. I have tried several German pilsners and weiss beers since then but could tell that none tasted like what I had tasted at that time. I have always been a fan of Weihenstephaner beers, original and weiss beer. Last weekend, I saw this one at a store and quickly grabbed it. When I had it today, immediately that taste of several years go came back rushing to me. This is what I have been missing for so many years.

I want to avoid fancy sounding descriptions of aroma and flavor, but I can use "floral" as something I definitely get in the first sip. Light but murky in a small glass - beautiful color for a beer. Lots going on in every sip; nice ABV on the high side but not crazy. It is what I would give someone who doesn't think that they like beer, to change their mind.

Too buzzed to give thorough review, but damn. This is an amazing beer. Bursting with banana and flavor. This is one of the best beers I’ve ever had.

SRM 3-4 (hazy gold) with a dense, three-inch, white mousse that condenses to one and a half inches for the duration. Tons of carbonation transforms quickly to a constant stream within a Weihenstephaner Weizen glass. A thick webbing of lace decorates the glass.

Rising bread dough is strong with sweet prunes and flowers. Grains outweigh the overripe banana while a late astringency is unfortunate.

Interestingly, Bananas Foster is perceptible early and quite sweet. Flavor turns to white bread, possibly even sourdough. Overripe bananas return in the quick finish.

The body is full and creamy smooth. Alcohol is controlled, yet present, against a surprisingly modest carbonation. The beer leaves an odd, syrupy coating on the palate.

This is a meal in a glass and would pair well with a cold, mid-winter's evening and creamy Brie.
