Weihenstephaner VitusWeihenstephaner Vitus

Brewed by:
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Cloudy gold beer with a white head that leaves a few random globs of lacing. A nice yeasty aroma with apricot, bananas and cloves. The nice sweet taste is the same as the nose with banana and apricot followed by the cloves. Nice and tasty beer.

Cloudy, yellow with a huge, four finger high, white head that sinks down to a fluffy, creamy two finger head and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass!

Nose: Banana, coriander, citrus, orange, apricot, peach and green apple.
Taste: Lemon, orange, biscuit, banana, honey, caramel and sugar.
Mouth: Full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth and almost creamy. Sweet and slight sour ending.

Sweet, refreshing, full body, smooth... SO GREAT!

From decervecitas. In Bavaria glass. Playing Darksiders 2. Reminds a hefe wih a lighter, more refreshing and alcoholic body. Although the taste is pretty good, the sweetness is a bit over the top. Very foamy.

Honey golden in color, with thick, long lasting bright white foam. Hazy, light does come through. Aroma is classic to the style. Bready, banana, clove. Some light spicy notes as well. The taste follows, with slightly more prominent banana and clove character. A nice wheat breadiness, slightly sweet. Medium body, creamy, and high carbonation. Dry finish. A really superb beer.

Pours bubbly and of a straw yellow color. Big, thick, heavy, foamy head houses itself on top of the beer. Fruity aroma of bananas, peaches, apricots, yeast, and more bananas. It's flavor reminds me of banana bread and apricots, with a perfectly fizzy carbonation to it. Slightly tart in it's finish. Very good mouthfeel, creamy yet nicely carbonated. Another great product from Weihenstephan.

16.9oz bottle into Perfect Pint glass
5046 date code which i think is about a year old, have been storing since July 2016
L- pale gold, with huge fluffy white head, slowly receding into the glass
S- plenty of banana , green apple, bubble gum
T- starts off tart with green apple and pear, comtinues with bubblegum, and finishes with the banana clovi-ness similar to the Hefe
F- not as smooth as the Hefe, pretty decently carbonated, ever so slight alcohol kiss
Overall this a quite a complex brew, with layered tastes and contrasts, sweet and tart, smooth and rough, definitely happy to have drank this one

Finally reviewing an absolute classic and a favorite of mine. Definitely overdue.

Poured aggressively into a Weihenstephaner weizen glass. A towering white head atop a cloudy yellow-orange body. Beautiful once it settles.

The nose, especially at first when the head is billowing, is absolutely magical. Banana bread, bubblegum, and grainy sweetness. A touch of grass.

The taste follows. Think Weihenstephaner Hefe on steroids. Smooth orange, lemon, biscuit, and lightly bitter clove.

Mouthfeel is creamy and medium. Perfect for a wheat beer.

Overall, world-class, easily. I still prefer the Hefe by a hair.

Pours a hazy golden hue, a little darker than a hefe. Nice white head. It doesn't dissipate completely but it does settle. The aromatics proliferate in banana candy form. Like literal banana candy, not candies made from bananas. It's mostly banana and wheat. I don't get as much clove, not that I'm complaining. The banana is a little tangy. There's a little bit of bitterness on the finish to cut it, with more estery bananas. Vitus is amazing.

12-30-16 - Pint bottle poured into my Braustuberl mug. Slightly cloudy with Straw color and super frothy white head. Refreshing aroma with refreshing mouthfeel as well. Not-quite-lemony taste. Very good one. Low on the hops.

A bit sweet. A smooth hefe. Strong banana and spice but nothing stands above the others. I would drink this regularly if drinking hefes. A really good hefe.

Another very good beer from Weihenstephan. Smell is mostly banana, but also malty. Taste is more spicy than their hefe weizen, with a malty component to it. Feel is very good, not over carbonated but a little sticky. Finish is smooth. Overall a very enjoyable weizenbock that I purchase from time to time.

Pours a hazy opaque golden color. Thick pillowy white head dissipates steadily leaving a thin layer of velvety white foam.

Smell is banana, clove, pepper, honey, and a touch citrus.

Taste has notes of banana, clove and honey. Solid honey wheat malt backbone. Bubblegum and slight hoppy bitterness on the finish. Slight lingering honey sweetness aftertaste.

Feel is very smooth and creamy. Heavy mouthfeel yet extremely drinkable. Mild carbonation.

Overall a lovely weizenbock. One of the best out there.

It poured a creamy 1 finger off white head; a golden, somewhat hazy, dull yellow color. Once the dregs were added from the bottle it became somewhat murky. It smelled lightly syrupy and spicy. Perhaps some pear and fresh peaches, too. The taste was fantastic! It had a nice spiced banana flavor; some pear and some other light fresh fruit that I had a difficult time identifying. The backend was slightly spiced with bubblegum and a very light coriander; maybe some pineapple in there as well; a little alcohol flavor in the aftertaste, but not overpowering at all. In fact it balanced the flavors out nicely. The mouthfeel was crisp and perfectly carbonated; a lighter bodied brew. A nice spring/summer beer.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from TW Arrowhead for $3.79. Bottle code 9036 11:08:09.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head on the initial pour.

Nose is bubblegum and bananas, very nice.

Taste is bananas and cloves forward over a nice wheat malt base.

Mouthfeel is near perfection. Light and so delightfully smooth. It makes the beer great!

Overall a very nice beer that is a bargain at the price point!

500 ml bottle purchased at local getränkemarkt with no bottles on or best by date. Pits hazy yellow orange with solid tight bubbled dense white head; super strong scent banana, clove, light sourness (green apple?) - solid fragrance; tastes of strong babana with some wheat biscuit and light sourness - disappointing relative to the aroma; mouthfeel is medium body with mild syrupiness/cloy and imp overly aggressive carbonation; the beer is fine but the sour note at the back of the taste overwhelms the somewhat watery wheat flavors.

L: Gives of a hazy deep yellow color. Nice creamy top of head when I pour in the glass. Nice sticky lacings on the glass.

S: banana ripes, citrus, cloves, peppercorn and honey.

T&F: a great creamy mouthfeel is my first impression. Fruity with the flavour of banana and citrus with the sugary taste from the sweet yeast, the spices gets noticeable in the middle with cloves, peppers and other spices. Finish of dry with a sightly bitterness in the aftertaste . Alcohol content is so well hidden in the flavour

O: what else is it to say. This is a delicious and an amazing beer. Enjoyed it to the last drop. I sure would not miss one of those again

Yields a hazed yellow-amber color with a creamy white head, which falls down to a fluffy lacing atop the surface.

Smells juicy of lusciously ripe bananas, sugared cereals and a soft spice pillow. Clove and wooden vanilla among white peppers build the yeast soothed spice profile in this.

Mouthfeel is velvet and soft, although the carbonation is at a medium level with a refreshing, vivid finish.

Tastes of ripe bananas, fresh cut grass, dried orange zest and spicy, soft yeast. Its spiciness is quite profound, while maintaining well entangled into the soothing yeast, calming peppers, clove and allspice. Finishes with moderate spices, white bread rind and toffee, pretty light once the spices recede.

Sweet and refreshing at the same time, very pleasant to drink due to the astonishing balance, I kinda miss some additional depth, justifying the higher abv on this.

Murky pale straw color, good amount of head & carbonation. I got lots of ripe banana on the nose - smells like banana bread, essentially - along with some slightly robust esthers & clove. Very fruity on the tongue - primarily banana again but with some candied dates and dark fruit (the esthers again). Definitely lighter for a bock beer, which threw me a tad at first, but overall good. I'm not too much of a spice / esthers guy so it had a ceiling for me.

On tap at BC's Pizza & Beer

A: Pours slightly hazy golden straw with a frothy white head that settles to a thin layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Spicy, fruity, faint citrus, a bit yeasty, wheat, and a touch of sweetness.

T: Spicy, fruity, banana, pear, clove, coriander, a touch of citrus, floral, yeasty, a little wheat twang, and a touch of sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Drinks kinda like an amped up hef. Very nice.

L - yellow thick body with thumb size white head that doesn't last long
S - banana, buscuit, yeast citrusy
T - same as the smell.
F - light coat of the mouth. Very low carbonation, really smooth
O - this is a really good beer. Defiantly one of my favorites. Super smooth beer with a lot of flavor. The more I drink of this the more I like it. I have to keep increasing my ratings on this beer.

Poured 16.9oz bottle into snifter glass. 7.7% abv

Appearance- Pours a glowingly bright goldenrod yellow with a massive finely bubbled foam head. Very slow to dissipate. Hazy, turbid, and cloudy in terms of clarity.

Smell- Wheat, lemon, apricot.

Taste- Flavorful wheat malt with a fine grainy flavor. Becomes more citric, with sharp notes of lemon, and some duller, lighter apricot flavors intertwined. Has the banana flavor as well which blends well with the strong wheat malt base. Finishes semi dry, slightly bitter and a clove like finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium in body with active carbonation.

Overall- This beer is insanely drinkable. It is so hard to believe it is 7.7%. One of the smoothest 7%+ beer if not the smoothest. Quite complex yet satisfying. Truly outstanding. A must try.

Look: Pours a cloudy orange yellow with a two finger cream colored head. Good retention, poor lacing on the glass.

Smell: Aromas of malted wheat, banana, honey, clove, bubblegum, tangerine and mild vanilla.

Taste: Exceptionally rich. Flavors of creamy malted wheat and oats thats slightly tart, amongst notes of mild cinnamon, clove, banana and bubblegum coming from the bavarian yeast. Finishes bittersweet with a mild bitter tropical fruit pith taste among more notes of pie crust, spice and creamy grains.

Feel: Dry upfront and quite yeasty. Alcohol is not detectable. Medium body, mildly carbonated.

Overall: Another gem from Weihenstephaner brewery.
