Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan make great wheat beers including this one.

Look: cloudy dark yellow orange with two-three-inch fluffy white head

Aroma: wheat, yeast, banana

Taste: It is wheat, yeast, banana bread, mango, cloves, a tad citrus, some pepper, stronger and more flavorful than their Hefeweizen, but like that one perfectly composed.

Feel: light to medium body

500mL bottled December 2016 poured into a. 5L weizen glass at fridge temp 7.7% ABV. The beer pours bright straw yellow with thick, clingy off white head. Retention and lacing are above average. The aroma is banana and clove in a big way. The taste is semisweet banana bread giving way to a clovey dryish finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated, creamy but dry in the finish. The bitterness in the finish offsets the sweetness from the wheat malt perfectly. Overall, good & possibly world class in its style. I was hoping for more bock than weizen, but will score to style (as I understand it).

A wondrous mouthful that is thick and mildly sweet. The taste is a wheat beer with great character.

Always a sensation to taste and review a spectacular 4+ beer, that rivals great Belgians.
a) Pours a straw hazed, foggy body with ample carbonation that generates a persistent head and lace.
s) Pilsner, wheat, fruit, apricot aromas with plenty of yeast and just the right touch of ripe banana. Evolves as it warms,
t) Pilsner upfront with bready, malt, sweet core where wheat adds a bakery with sugar dust appeal, along with lots of frostings on the yeasty donuts: Banana, apricot, mango, papaya, pinapple, apples, pears, peaches. Resolves in a quite hoppy zing.
f) Clean, crisp, refreshing, where the essence like a great Beligian offers a yeasty, round, creaminess.
o) Found the 17 oz bottle for < $4 - quite a bargain. Would keep around to turn on my friends. Try 24.

This beer pours a very clear, light golden color - almost white. The head was 2 finger, white, quite frothy, but didn't last long at all.
The nose is almost like a wheat beer. I get the same banana notes from it.
The taste is, well for a fraction of a second, it was a wheet beer, but then it changed, and became very interesting. I got many different flavors. I got a citrus flavor, some bitterness. I also got a strange aftertaste, I can't put words to it, but I did like it.
It feels decent bodied. Nice carbonation feel.
Interesting, but strange beer. I like it, and will look for it again.

Cloudy and golden, this brew assaults your senses with a sour, citrus flavor. The creamy feel is the highlight for me. Light and sweet aroma.

Lots of rich, creamy, malty banana to the nose and the taste. Banana just is not my thing in beer. It's quite good for what it is. The color is and creaminess is lovely though. I will stick to the Korbinian and the hefe.

L - nice orange hazy color with about an inch of head
S - does not have quite a punch of fruity aroma as the taste
T - balanced; not overbearingly sweet
F - medium mouthfeel; clean and refreshing
O - overall not bad

Poured from 16 oz. bottle to snifter.

A: Hazy gold daffodil with a 1 in. white head with some lacing.
S: Banana, Clove, powdered sugar, pound cake, a little bubblegum.
T: A good balanced sweetness. Banana and spice up front, breadiness in the middle, and a semi-dry finish. Alcohol pretty inconspicuous.
M: Fuller side of medium.
O: Very nice wheat. Love that it has more flavor than a lot of hefeweizens. Almost akin to a tripel with a creamier mouthfeel.

Secret best beer. This is German, but tastes like an American/Belgian collaboration. Hoppy for the style. Soft lemon flavors. Pale gold body. An old beer that manages to taste new amongst the craft beer explosion. I paid $3.75 for this pleasure (imperial pint bottle, plus tax). I hope I find something as tasty anywhen soon.
