Weihenstephaner VitusWeihenstephaner Vitus

Brewed by:
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

A- The pour on this gives a massive head as is the norm for a Weihenstephaner beer. Four fingers of fluffy, pale white head and below is a a golden liquid with a cloudy look and robust carbonation.

S- Strong banana aroma like most of this brewery's beers, but it seems much less clove and spice aroma. The yeast aroma is vibrant and there is some bread and nuttiness present.

T- I get some fruitiness reminiscent of plum here, then banana, sweet malt, hints of honey, and a floral taste. I like, I like.

M- Sweet, light to medium body, yeasty and airy. This is a great drink for being so light and easy to drink, yet abundant in flavors.

Yet another great beer from these guys, I love the variety of flavors and aromas that it presents.

Poured from bottle into Chimay Chalice.

A: Hazy straw yellow. Similar to dark mustard in the middle.

S: Plenty of yeast. Overpowered by banana. Cloves round out the mix.

T: Banana greets you first. Yeasty biscuit second. Light malt with citrus.

M: WOW! Carbonation is on point. Great combination of taste and feel. Full marks.

O: Watch out. No hint of alcohol. Hidden behind banana and citrus flavors. This is a boozy spring drink for me. I think it is perfect for March/April.

T-Awesome taste of biscuit malty base, citrus, & yeasty funk.

M-Great mouthfeel that has a medium bodied. Slightly slick. Soft carbonation. Citrus finish.

Pours a hazy golden with a big creamy white head. Huge banana aroma. Taste begins with some banana, then some fresh bread flavor, then finishes with a sweet clove. Mouthfeel is good. Overall a very good beer. Quite strong in ABV, but no cloying alcohol taste.
