Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Poured from a 1 Pint, 9 ounce bottle into a Guinness Pint glass. Huge head (3 fingers worth) forms and has pretty good retention. Cloudy amber color of brew.

The aroma provides a strong hint of citrus and banana. The taste is heavy on the banana. More so than even more pronounced than many of the wheat ales that I have sampled recently. The mouth feel is very creamy and full.

This is an amazing world class beer. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who enjoys wheat oriented ales with intense banana flavor.

Poured from a 500ml standard pressure-cap bottle into a large weizen glass in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- Three-finger white head. Fluffy and long-lasting head. Hazy orange color. Nice looking beer.

S- Active yeasts, European dulled hops and citrus notes.

T- Lemons, wheat and bottle-conditioned yeasts.

M- Silky sort of feel. Wet and medium-bodied with soft carbonation.

O- Good beer, no complaints about it.

A. Dark straw color. Opaque because of the cloudiness. Aggressive pour yielded a big-time frothy head that retains nicely. Thick laces. A very good looking beer.

S. Barnhouse funk. Cloves, banana peels, wheat, and grain. Yeast and biscuits. Some sweetness in the form of honey.

T. This sucker is sweet. Flavors of cloves, bubble gum, banana peels, and Belgium yeast. Similar to a yeast roll with some butter and honey.

M. Full body, fairly smooth (diminishes b/c of the sweetness), high carbonation. Actually leaves a clean palate.

O. I was detracted from the high level of sweetness that I found this beer to have. Generally a good beer, but it seems not as well crafted as some of their others. Their Hefe is tip-top shelf, but this falls short. Worth a try but I will likely pass unless in a share.
