Brewed by:
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel. Thus, the Vitus does not taste like a typical Bock beer but more like a noble, fruity wheat beer. Perfect with red meat, strong cheese and also able to guide desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Appearance: Cloudy pale gold/amber with tiny hints of brownish color. Massive creamy white head, which settle to a half finger thickness and lasts.

Aroma: Banana, bubblegum, clove, and some other spices. Light wheat bread.

Taste: Spicy. Banana and bubblegum. Clove. Light fruitiness and citrus. Slight white pepper and a bit more spices that I cannot name. Nice wheat in the background(and plentiful) and light breadiness.

Mouthfeel: Great creamy body. Very smooth. Slight dry finish.

Overall: Great beer. Spicy-er than I originally thought, but really enjoy it and the beer as a whole. Definitely gonna get more. I love the lingerings of this beer. Vitus is probably my favorite from Weihenstephaner.

From a 500 ml bottle (code says 3143) into a hefeweizen glass.

A-A normal to timid pour produces a straw-colored murky brew with two fingers of pillowy, long-lasting, white head. There is a good show of carbonation that supports the foam. The brew is essentially the color of a hefeweizen; no darkness to be found.

S-Banana and a huge dose of clove-spice are most noticeable. There is a also a bit of orange rind and doughy sweetness. Alcohol is fruity, estery, and pretty obvious. This smells like an amped hefeweizen.

T-Again...amped up hefe is what comes to mind. There is banana, orange rind, bready dough, and lemon, and a bit less clove than the smell, but this brew has nothing in the way of cocoa or malty dark fruits. The alcohol is warming but integrates nicely into the flavors. Taste is semisweet, and at times, reminds me of a Belgian golden ale because of the alcohol and doughy sweetness.

M-The feel is creamy and smooth, with fine carbonation and a lighter body.

O-I like this beer quite a bit, so my scores are pretty high. However, I question how true to style this thing is because, although this is a delicious beer, it lacks any hint of the typical chocolate or dark malts or dark fruit. Instead, this is essentially an "imperial" hefe, or at least a beefed up hefe with more flavor and alcohol. But damn if it ain't good.

Bottle poured into wheat beer glass

Hazy golden color. Beautiful, full thick white three finger foamy cap.

Clean, crisp, fresh smell of Banana's with a hint of cloves, caramel and a whiff of lemon. Light to medium mouthfeel

Smooth. Delicious with a small hint of alcohol on the finish. No bitter aftertaste. clean and refershing. Sweet with banana and slight clove taste. Definite repeat , delicious beer.

Back up the trucks and stock up the fridge. Great classic beer. A favorite. Savor it and enjoy. They had a 500 year head start on Rheinheitsgebot , imagine what they can produce in the next millennium?

This is my favorite German beer.
Just a fantastic example of what they do with wheat beer. Wonderful banana aroma and just the right amout of spices in the taste. A wonderful experience to drink slow and enjoy; unfortunately that can be the hard part.
As above, the best beer from an A+ brewery.

Game changer. What can I say, Weihenstephaner does it again.. The beer is god damn ridiculous. It's just a wheaty, spicy, clovey masterpiece with a slight hint of banana.. But not enough to gross me out, because I hate bananas. Flavor is reminiscent of a Belgian Tripel.. It's a masterpiece. I would drink this literally everyday. It doesn't exactly have the appearance that I prefer (a bit too yellow and clear), but that doesn't matter at all. It's just a wonderful, wonderful beer. Wonderful. This brewery is just genius.
