Very Good
Weihenstephaner FestbierWeihenstephaner Festbier
Notes: A full rich bodied, hoppy, seasonal lager. Especially brewed for the Festbier season. This beer truly represents the Bavarian way of celebrating. Deep gold color, great mouth-feel and lots of flavor. Prost!

While very complex, they get it right. There is a lot in this bier, but it all works. I think if I had to drink one beer the rest of my life.... So far this would be it. (Wouldn't be the best for a day on the beach / water / boat when your are looking at a long day and most likely over a 12 pack per person; But I would try)

Look: Clear light orange-yellow with a frothy white head that builds up, holds, and then recedes, leaving sticky lacing clung to the glass’ rim
Aroma: Freshly baked bread, raw bread dough, floral hops, a little honey, and biscuits
Taste: Kicks off with bready malt and a big bouquet of floral goodness – black locust, flowering cherry, and yellow azalea amongst them and followed by a rich doughy punch. Bread, honey, biscuits, and flowers play tug-of-war until floral hops regain dominance on the close
Mouthfeel: Light but full, extremely clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a clean and crisp but slightly soft finish
Overall: This is some tasty stuff. I love this beer and am totally biased towards it but it’s hard not to be with how well-made and delicious it is. A Festbier through and through and one of the gold standards at that with plenty of malt, bread, and dough along with a floral hoppy side that shines in these lighter-styled Oktoberfests. This beer just has a unique flavor, less malty than typical, compared to many festbier I've tasted, and I've tasted many. This could be my favorite.

A wiesen style beer vs marzen. Light crystal clear malty lager with a bit of citrus and hops to balance the sweetness. You can drink this all day in spite of 5.8% abv. Fresh and highly drinkable. Get some.

Sampling a lightly chilled 11.2 oz bottle poured into my .5L dimple mug. Been meaning to get to this since Oktoberfest, just havent opened it. Date code is 0201 16:55:09.
The beer pours a bright clear golden straw color with a fizzy bleached white head of 1 cm foaming up. This foam fades to a sturdy surface layer soon after the pour. Several active streams of carbonation rise to the surface to feed the foam.
Aroma is some cracker malt and a bit of light honey note. Nose is very mild overall.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth texture and very mild carbonation.
Flavor is some bready malt and crackers, a bit of honey again and here I get some spicy or black tea hops that linger with a little bitterness after each swallow. Finish is sort of dry and the beer drinks very easy.
Nice easy drinking beer, pretty mild flavor and nose, but enjoyable for a Sunday night.

Poured from 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass
Look: Clear yellow with 1.5 fingers of head with average retention.
Smell: Extremely faint aroma of bread.
Taste: Clean average lager taste. Nothing more, and nothing less. Definitely goes down easily.
Feel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Not bad, but also not overly impressive. Whereas I would go out of my way to buy a six-pack of Weihenstephaner hefeweissbier, I would not do the same for this one.

2 11.2 oz bottles into a .5L glass. Look is clear light gold with white head that lasts a while. Medium carbonation slowly rising up. Some lacing left in the mug. Smell is grain, yeast, bready malt, and earthy hops. Taste starts sweet and grainy. The middle sees some bitterness, along with some yeast roll and earthiness from the hops along with some bittering. Finish is balanced with the hops on one side and a bit of sweet apple and grapeskin on the other. Feel is medium bodied and tongue coating. Carbonation is medium. Overall this is a good festbier and with a slightly lower ABV, one that can be enjoyed in quantity.

This is the German 11.2 oz. bottle poured in the weizen glass. This is a very clear golden brew, one thick finger of head that never goes away. The carbonation is on the high side, with foam pushing out of the bottle shortly after being uncapped. Excellent looking festbier!
The aroma is malty fresh bread, with a light hint of yeast.
The flavor is a light sweetness quickly giving way to the hops, they perfectly cut the sweetness. This is not too bitter or sweet, just a solid easy drinking brew!
Weihenstephaner never lets me down. Time to put the lederhosen on and take the wiener dog for a walk!

I got a 6pck of this beer from my local meijer store. It poured a clear golden with white head that is not leaving any head. The scent had grain and malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with good light malt base and crisp biscuit and yeast highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

12 oz bottle, poured into a willi becher at ~40 degrees F.

L: Pours a crystal clear pale straw gold, and forms a couple fingers of white head with okay retention.

S: Biscuits and bread, with honeysuckle and white grapes.

T: Much like the nose, this is a florally enhanced doughy biscuit, with notes of white grape and pear. Grassy tones abound. The finish is dry, grassy, and floral.

F: Medium and smooth.

O: This is a delicious wiesn.

Brilliantly clear, bright gold body; excellent carbonation; less than a one-finger thick head, white and semi-creamy in texture. Sweet aroma, like honey; bright floral and spicy notes. Light sweetness in the taste; bread crust; moderate hop bitterness; grassy. Medium body; crisp; slightly dry overall.

Better than the sum of its parts.

Poured at 49 °F; bottling date on label: 22 21

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours golden orange yellow with a fluffy white head. Smells of cereal grain with just a hint of caramelized grain. Tastes of caramelized grain with nice cereal grain notes, just a hint of fruit. Beer is light bodied and very easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Poured from fridge temperature into a tall becher glass as many of the fest beers have pretty impressive heads. This one had almost none, but the beer itself is a nice pale gold with active carbonation which looks great.
The aroma is largely lost on my poor sense of smell, but it does have a grassy, malty, hops sort of nose that I can detect. Impressive.
The taste is where this really shines, excellent combination of flavors, the grass, sweet malts, spicy hops or yeast, not sure what, but tasty!
Feel is good, just wish I had more than 330 ml to judge it by. Goes down so easily!
I generally prefer marzens but this one will definitely find a home in my fridge for the season.

Just a delicious malty super drinkable beer. Clear light gold covered in lovely foam and lacing. Light sweetness and mild hops in the nose and on the tongue. Crisp clean finish with just a perfect hop finish. So smooth and crushable I could drink a six in an hour. Best consumed in an one liter glass.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice golden yellow with little head. Nose is lemon, wheat, bread, grass, and maybe weak leather. A hint of hops, but nothing much. I start to get a little bit of apple after a few minutes. The taste is incredible. Sweet upfront, but definitely not too much. Pears, a touch of hops, malts, wet grass, and a little bit of burnt toffee on the aftertaste. A hint of lemon and orange. Really crisp and easy-drinking. Super smooth. Mouthfeel is light and exciting. This is an absolutely fantastic beer for a warm evening. Blink and glass is empty!

Pours medium gold with an excellent foamy head that retains quite well. Nice lacing. Crystal clear and bubbly. Admittedly lighter than the norm but still a nice-looking brew.

The malt aromas are more "pale" than is the norm, but still lightly sweet. The hops are fairly forward for the style-grassy and floral. Yet still pretty balanced.

The brew hits the tip of the tongue with pale and caramel malt sweetness. Creamy bready sweetness in midstream doesn't take over too much before very-present but not unbalanced hops of the grassy variety arrive.

Medium light in body and very drinkable. Excellent carbonation.

Perhaps the best example of why "festbier" and "marzen" simply had to be different styles. This one is outstanding and remarkably underrated, most likely because some folks seem to be rating it to a different style than it is.

Brew: Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan - Festbier

Intro: 11.2 oz. poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend

Appearance: Clear golden yellow in color. Ample head, maybe 1.5 inches. Moderate lacing as we drank

Smell: Strange (for me) aroma. Almost a hint of skunk.

Taste: Didn’t quite know what to expect. It was pleasing but I’m one-and-done.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Carbonation helps this beer a lot

Drink: Easy drinker. As I’ve stated, it is one-done.

Conclusion: Happy to have tried the style but would not revisit. Oddly enough, this was my last needed style to try as BA added the style (Lager – Festbier) just recently so this is style #113 for me. I am happy to be able to claim having tried every style listed in BA.

11.2 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass.

L---Crystal clear, bright golden color. Fluffy white head settled slowly to a cap and left nice lacing.

S---Bread and more hops than expected.

T---Well balanced between malts and hops. Doughy and some grassiness.

F---Medium bodied. Well carbonated.

O---A nice one. Not a malts bomb like a lot of others, the hops are definitely noticeable.
