Style: Munich Helles Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A good beer takes its time. The long storage makes our yellow bright lager, “Original”, a flavourful beer enjoyed with fine poured, white foam. With a mild hoppy note and its pleasant fresh spicy taste, it goes very well with salads, poultry, stews or with a hearty snack. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

A: Hay colored hue. Pours a giant, foamy, white head. Pervasive rising effervescence. Craters slowly leaving plenty of dry residue behind as it does. Lots of dry, sticky, beer ring lacing. Head continually renews.

S: Hay, grass, yeast, and sourdough.

T: Tastes like smells. Well-balanced with a bit of lemon zest.

M: Light body, crisp, and pristine. Lingering touch of bitterness. Very well constructed.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is excellent. Giant head, effervescence is pervasive, tons o' lacing. Nose is hay, grass, and traditional bready components. Well-balanced light combination of bread and lemon citrus. Overall, this is a great quaff.

appearance; a lovely brown amber with big, energetic bubbles swimming in the beer itself, the foam however, faded a bit too quickly.

smell; when rating the aroma of lagers one feels the need to curb the score. the smell is not complex but the yeast is inviting and the earthy notes are pleasant and not inviting. a hint of spice is detectable as well.

taste; beautifully balanced yeast, lemon, light malt and light spice. bitterness does not come before or after, but rather lingers throughout adding personality to the flavors one associates with lagers.

mouthfeel; not dry, not thin but not too heavy, nice carbonation.

overall; will buy this maybe once in every three or four beer hauls. (which is a lot for someone who tends to constantly mix it up) this beer is appealing to all types of beer drinkers i have come across, and is incredible for not just for a lager but for a beer of any kind.

A: An incredibly clear light golden color. Two fingers of white head that had no interest in it's own existence. In turn, faded fairly rapidly.

S: Mostly bready and grassy notes.

T: Slight sweetness to the bready malt, subtle lemony/earthy hops and a faint kick of black pepper.

M: Medium light body that is stickier than I expected. Medium carbonation. Overall, mouthfeel is still pretty clean.

O: Not my typical style but I was really digging this one. Super clean and easy drinking. Great price on these considering I got a tall boy for 2.99. Grab a few tall boys and you can make quite the session with these.

look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

A: Clear, liquid gold. The head is 2 fingers of nearly white head, which faded a little faster than I'd hoped and left a thin lace.

S: Mild citrus notes up front; then wet hay, and a touch of grated pepper.

T: Lightly toasted grain comes first, followed by fresh-baked biscuits. A hint of sweet malt pokes its head in, then leaves to make room for a faintly tart/bitter lemon peel. The hops is mildly bitter, melding with the grain for a long, clean finish.

M: Very moist up front, with fair carbonation. In the finish, it turns slightly dry, inviting me to take another sip.

O: Well-balanced in terms of flavor, aroma, and feel. Not my favorite style, but a seriously fine example of a German lager.
